You guys are a lot more tech-savvy than I will ever be.

Got this one last week. Really like it so far.

Have put the outdoor sensor a couple different places testing reception and protection from rain, etc.

Couple on trees, and last in a window well on the north side of the house. I think better shielded from rain and out of direct sunlight.

Very nice! I've been thinking about upgrading the one I've had at the house for close to 10 years. Both outdoor temperature sensors failed within the last couple of years so I'm back to looking at the outside temperature on the HVAC display. I'll take a look at that model.

I have been running the Acurite Atlas model at my home and my cabin for the past three years without fail. Highly recommend the brand.

It always amazes me when the forecasters say we received say 20mm of rain but actually it is 6mm.

Thanks to you and @RCW I ordered an Atlas Direct-to-Wi-Fi display with lightning detection. Definitely a big upgrade over what I've been using for the past 10 years.

In a previous research engineering position I designed and made test racks and ordered a number of professional grade weather stations for test sites on various islands in Hawaii. Those systems were thousands of dollars each. Here are a couple of photos that I took. One is at the Kilauea Volcano and the other on Coconut Island but we had them all over the place.

No fancy 'computer' told me it gets DARK at 5 now... :(

N.Y,
Alexa just gives you a forecast. A home weather station tells you the actual weather.
Just ask her for what you want and it's all there. Current conditions to long range. Set her up with the most accurate provider in your area also. Set up NWS warnings. Alexa uses information from the nearest town that's 3 miles from us that is fairly accurate and our GPS location for alerts. We have windows to verify data.

Had Accurite for years but my Atlas failed early this year, so I made the jump to Tempest.
If I get "years" out of the Atlas system that I just ordered I'll be more than happy. At a little over $200 I'll be pleased if I get a year out of this system. AcuRite has lots of replacement parts too.

Sorry guys - guess I should point out that I probably used improper terminology with the thread.

Really the thing I got is not much of a comprehensive weather station like some that are available.

It captures outdoor and indoor temperature, relative humidity and barometric pressure (only indoor?).

For us that’s sufficient. Just replaced one of those $15 ones that sticks to a window (in the sunshine half the day 😉).

I am liking having RH and barometer readings.

PPS - I should also point out we’ve al Boxer Weather Stations for years.

With Geddy, he gets a snotty nose at <60 degrees F.

Proof positive at 57 this afternoon….

Pffft 3 miles. Nearest town is 12 miles away.
I get 12" rain; town gets8". Town gets hail; we get sunshine.
Town temperatures are always 8F different -- up or down depending on wind direction, phase of moon, etc

And the TV newscaster is way off.....

I think it was 2008 or around that year. I bought my beloved a toy. She doesn't like technology toys. It was a Davis ProII weather station and she just rolled her eyes. She was a skilled biologist and worked outside in the Columbia Gorge and it was a never ending topic of how she might dress for the day. Weather forecasts on in the Cascades are a joke, esp if you are on the east side.

I set it up and mounted the indoor console. She was intent to prove she was better at judging the conditions and only gave it enough attention to prove it worthless. After a few weeks she got quiet about the subject. She started to view the console before dressing for work. After a few months her co-workers were ringing the phone in the morning to ask how they might dress for the day.

We have moved twice since then and still have the unit. It has been sent in once for the factory overhaul which is a set R&R price. It came back looking, functioning and calibrated like a new unit. At that point I added the UV and solar sensors. To this day she still hates technology. But it's now written in stone to record the overnight low and the precip day and year to date) on the calendar first thing in the morning as she gets out of bed - even though I DO have the Weatherlink subscription to the cloud storage. And she'll want the high temp later. She is now an addict to that device to the point of it being more important than her 1st cup of coffee until it gets logged by hand.

Now we are both retired. We live in a remote canyon which is a still in the area but has its own weather pattern. The forecasts are a joke for us and are completely different from the regional forecasts. Our home weather station, with a bit of understanding, is far more accurate than the NWS information in Pendleton, OR, factored for the whole local region. In fact, the public systems reject our contributed data because it does not 'fit'. It's kind of fun, actually, to compare regional weather to what we actually receive.

The ONLY reason to take the time to post this is this: it's kind of fun but very usable. But further we are slowing down and don't do what we used to do. Firewood and livestock are paramount and it's not such a nice-to-know.... its critical.

Get a weather station. Whether you are on a prairie or in your own weather pattern in a contoured area it's a cool thing that is beneficial.

A few months back a old guy that lives five miles west of me stopped by one morning while I was greasing the sprayer and had a gang off a six foot three point disk in the back of his pickup. One bearing was out and the other going out. He said he had taken it to several repair shops and no one wanted to mess with it. I told him to back up to the shop door and we would unload and I would repair for him. So within a couple of weeks I got to it and replaced both bearing. Lots of heating and cutting went on. So one morning I was headed his way to spot spray with the MX6000 so I put the folks on the loader and took the gang with me. Dropped it off. Lots of talk about paying, I wouldn't take his money as I had the bearings in stock and I sure don't mind helping forks out even though I didn't know him all that well. Fast forward the next week I come in the house for the evening and there is a box in four season room. Wife says what ever you ordered is here. Opened the box and there is a Act-Rite weather station in there. Display model 06095 and a weather sensor model 06014. Disk guy found a way to pay me. Wife and myself have really enjoyed the weather station. Wife sent him a thank you card. We have rain gauges at all our farms to track the rain and I carry a portable wind speed machine in the sprayer so we are watching the weather any way.

Hedgerow, cool story.

Can't people see their own weather coming?

We are in a canyon so we are at a loss to see any direction but we somehow know.... It must be Indian magic. No, its understanding, the season and everything else.

We'd love to get snowed in. That's when the beloved makes the best viddles.
