Mulching Kit or Chute Blocker?

Just got to use my new GR2120 for the first time and it was awesome. Coming from a 2WD Simplicity, this thing is like a billy goat on my slopes. But due to pavement and flowerbeds, etc, I need to do something about the open chute.

On the old tractor I had run a mulching kit. It was ok. I'm something of a lazy lawn care guy, so I'd often have to take the chute block off (it was really easy to remove on the Simplicity) if the grass was too wet or long.

So my question for this time around: should I do another mulch kit, or just get a chute blocker and some gator blades or something?

I haven't seen much specifically for the GR2120 on here, but sounds like the mulching kits aren't very popular on the subcompacts. Still, if the chute block on it is easy to remove (quickly!), I'd probably consider it. I also found a company that makes a chute blocker that can be opened or closed with a foot pedal, and will fit my tractor with a little bit of drilling. That in combo with some gator-like blades seems ok.

Primarily, beyond keeping grass out of areas that I don't want to throw it, I like to mulch my grass, but I will sometimes let it grow too long for effective mulching. I also have plenty of leaves to mulch up in the fall.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

I would do that. On my older Scag Turf Tiger I built my own chute blocker and run gator blades in the fall. Does an outstanding job of mulching my leaves in the fall. I reached out about a similar cable operated set up for my older deck and decided the homemade bolt on option for the fall was good enough, I can easily maneuver the mower in a way to discharge away from the house and flowerbeds around my property.

I think that that pedal-operated blocker is pretty neat, and I've got enough space on the left side to mount the pedal. Does the blocker and gator blades mulch up grass at all for you? Or do you get clumping when it's wet?

It will mulch the grass up great. Thinking of getting a second set so I can have them sharpened and ready to go. Feel like I can tell a difference in cut and clipping disbursement when I take the gator blades off even without the chute blocker on.
