Anything to do with 'emissions' should be 100% warranty , and that includes the inhibit switch..... 'they' reamed up the system, 'they' should be responsible for it !
Just HOW could the 'computer' not KNOW the switch was stuck ? Simple, easy realtime diagnostic code will see 'stuck keys'.
I don't think "warranty" from the manufacturer is the right way to do it, if they put a lifetime warranty on the emissions stuff, the cost of the vehicle would go through the roof--as if it weren't already high enough. However, I do think that the government-who mandates the emissions regulations-should share responsibility. They want us to have clean air, they're gonna have to figure out a way that we can afford it. If that were the case, I'd imagine a tax increase would ensue. Ain't no free lunch.
BTW there is no diagnostic code for a stuck inhibit switch that I know of. I don't think diagmaster can see that in that way. A misconception on electronic vehicle controls is that the confuser I mean computer can see everything and tell you everything in every possible form that is wrong. That's not the case. Just because you have a misfire code doesn't mean there is an actual misfire, for instance. It can get confusing (which is why I call the ECU a confuser) and sometimes it makes no sense as to why things are the way they are, and that leads to my final statement. Youtube certified shadetree technicans NEVER tell the whole story. The internet, in all of the searching you can do, will never tell you ALL of the possibilities of what can be wrong, only some of the more common. CAse in point, I used to work at a yamaha/kubota/kawasaki dealership across town. One of the guys I worked with was pretty sharp on certain things as well. In 2007 he left adn started working on tech stuff (confusers). Moved to OKC area working for Dell, been there ever since. Got bored with it and is doing some side work out of his place since he's working from home mostly. Well the deal is, I get a call, text or email about every week asking why this kawasaki (or honda or whatever) does this or that, saying he tried this and that and the other. I "Google" his issue and what he is describing for what he's already tried, is exactly what he's found online. Online isn't the end-all, but that information feeds us with, information, and we "think" we "know it all"-when in fact, it doesn't matter how much you know or think you know, there is always someone else who really does know more than you.
