Box scraper for my new BX25? Which model/brand?

I've been researching... I can buy a new woods GB8 for $850. Any other better less expensive choices out there? What about Everything Attachments 4 Foot XTreme Duty Compact Tractor Box Blade for $587? Does anyone have a report on this unit? Others?

If your wondering, driveway maintenance. We have a long, steep dirt/rocky driveway that washes out 6-8 times a year. That will be it's only use.

Woods is top of the line. Yes there are cheaper ones but some of the less expensive ones don't weigh as much. I have a 4 foot King Kutter and it does alright, there are times I wish it was a bit beefier to really scrape some dirt.

There are some things in life that prove the addage "you get what you pay for"- implements is one of those things. Woods is top of the line, and is why the price is higher. There are other box blades out there that will live up to your expectations, given the infrequency of use that you will have. If you were using one every day for the kind of work that you are talking about, a lesser blade probably wouldn't last as long. But, if it were me, I don't think I would spend that kind of money on a blade that I would only use occasionally. Spend less on a blade that you are comfortable with, and then use it within the limits of its design- make it work for you, instead of bashing it and then cussing when it didn't live up to your expectations (that's what a friend of mine does- which is why my stuff is still in good, usable condition, and everything he has is junk. He could break an anvil, and then complain). I'm not assuming that you will do that; I don't know you. I am generalizing- anything can be broken, including a top of the line implement. Buy what you can afford and what suits your needs, then use it within those parameters.

I liked Woods and Land Pride; have a BB2584 and HR3584, but on our BX, I use a cheap LMC as I just use it for counter balance and occasional small jobs. If I used it much I would go with LP, Woods, Frontier etc. I don't know if anyone makes a roll over box scraper that small, but if they did, it would be a good choice in my opinion and input from those with a lot more experience than I.

I have a United Box scraper and just put it to work last weekend for several projects I had and wanted to try, it worked a lot better than I thought it would and after researching them I see the huge benefit to it having the curved replaceable cutting edges. This thing can dig, one has to keep a close eye or you can dig too deep real fast and fill up the box real fast. I did some road repair with the scarefiers and did some leveling along with just relocating some sod ect.

I just bought a King Kutter 48" box blade for my BX, and not the XB 48 but the BB48. At 400lbs its very heavy duty and not something my BX is going to bend up, having said that I don't like how much it changes the center of gravity on the BX when its all the way up. I needed it for removing dead sod from lawns so the weight will be nice but I will have to be careful with the loader work. I would look for one in the 320lbs to 350lbs range.

I have found that there is nothing better to maintain a drive than one of these types of grader blades.

After having done a small road project and my driveway I can definitely see the advantage of one of those versus a box scraper for a better result and easier as well, doing road and driveway work with the box scraper forces you to go slow and constantly be adjusting the 3pt height to keep things close to level, I had to drag it all to get a better finish after being done with the box scraper.

If road and driveway work it the main use go with one of these in my book.

One problem we have with the driveway is large cobble stones. In one area, and the bottom is silt-like stone dust that washes into the road when it rains.

Is a back blade useful or should I pass?

This subject seems to pop up once a month or so and I have said here several times to keep an eye out for reasonable prices on boxes.
The wife and I ran to another town tonight and stumbled upon these-

The yellow ones are more than heavy, larger than mine, and priced at $495.




The gray one here is $395

A back blade will be useless on that road in my opinion, so will a land plane.

And I doubt your BX will handle a land plane.
