Hello all - I'm a 20 acre hobby farmer with a tractor itch. I've several old tractors that i use for random tasks. As of late, I've spent more time repairing than operating (which is ok as far as i'm concerned). My wife commented that it may be time to focus on a beefier tractor for every day tasks, so Ive started looking at 50+ hp MX HST units with loader.

As a reference - I have a great BX2200 that I'll never let go of. The little demon is a must have by all.

-I have a Kioti 40hp sub compact that i could do without, and would be replaced by the MX.
-Ford 4000 industrial backhoe
-Ford 861
-Ford 8n
-JD B

...and implements galore. I'm mostly clearing fields and trees. I'll clear driveways in the Buffalo winter via a 3pt snowblower. I'd like to eventually use it for hay.

I'd prefer to go with a tried and true used MX with <1000 hours over something new. Can anyone suggest years to look at and years to avoid?

I don't believe that there were any noteworthy issues with any of the MX tractors. If I were buying, the year wouldn't be a consideration for me, rather I would focus on condition and value.

I would agree that condition and value are the important variables. I think it was around four years ago when Kubota refreshed the MX models and launched the MX5400 and MX6000. The current MX offerings have become one of Kubota's best selling variants (according to Neil Messick).

I've owned two MX6000s, first an open station and now a cabbed model, and they are excellent utility tractors. In a perfect world I would have kept the open station for those really nice days, but ultimately I moved up a rung or two and added an M6060 which is a more useful combination for me.

Any MX in good working condition at a reasonable price would make for an excellent tractor.
