B7100 Lawn Roller Weight

Greetings

I'm a new member and happy to find this website.

I belong to a gun club. We have 35 acres of mixed grass, timber and creek bottom. Yesterday we bought a 1980 B7100 4WD with end loader and 3 point hitch mounted 48" mower. This tractor will be used for grounds maintenance and mowing the rougher areas.

Question: One task for this tractor is pulling a lawn roller. The question is, how heavy a lawn roller can it handle? The areas we roll are flat but getting to and from them involves some fairly steep hills.

Do you have a lawn roller currently (what is its weight), or are you asking for a suggestion? I don't know since I don't use/have one, but I do have a feel for what a B7100 can pull and hold back.

To be honest with you as a professional landscaper I don't really get the idea of a lawn roller. Well I understand the underlying purpose and that's to smooth out the lawn so you don't have rough spots from tire wear. BUT every Spring and early Fall you're supposed to aerate the lawn to loosen and decompact it so the root zone gets air, water, and nutrients. Just seems kinda goofy to me to pack it down on some passes then unpack it with aeration on other passes.

Just rotate out your mowing pattern and keep an even wear on the turf.

I do not know the weight of the roller we have. I do know it is somewhat too heavy for a 1958 Case 410 utility tractor. No way this Kubota can handle it.

We need to buy another roller so I need some idea of the weight it can handle.

That makes sense for a suburban lawn or golf course. Our objective is to have a smooth firing point. The moles and earthworms make the place kind of lumpy. That condition is a negative for competitor stability and comfort.

If you are at half the weight of the tractor I would say you are safe.
