Hi Everyone,

Recent to me tractor. When looking at whole back end closely for my own "education" I noticed what LOOKS like two missing bolts in the top link 'bracket' Photos:

TopLink1.jpg

Other Side. AND what is that double-hook type thing in the center?? Clue to Newbie please..

TopLink2.jpg

Looks mechanically like those upper bolts would hold most of the rearward force :-(

Anyone know what length / thread those would be?? English? Metric? (IS most of the tractor the same or mixed)??

I REALLY don't want to be cross-threading something into those holes ! !

MIGHT the lower bolts there be the same as used in top?

Any suggestions, comments welcome! THANKS!

To get more/better feedback a picture from a distance back gives information you already see and know about. After the "distance" photo, come in to detail the actual problem. The forum viewer has no concept of the whole area that your mind already sees, that is unless they own that particular tractor!

Terry,

I did not pull one out , I can if no one else responds with length etc.

It does measure 17mm across the flats , cadium plated with a large "7" on the head. Also has a cad plated lock washer. Maybe those more familiar with metric sizing can shed some light on dia and thread pitch. My 6 point 17mm socket fits perfectly.

Let me know if you need me to pull it.

The double hook is to chain an implement up for safe road travel.

Just my opinion but I would not hook up and lift a implement or pull one without replacing those bolts.

They are metric hex head cap screws. I dont know the size offhand but a ruler will tell you. I would guess M10, possibly M12. They need to be in place else ypu risk expensive damage.

I would also say theres a good chance the threads are damaged or missing.....

Hi Cat, You are so right. Annoying, but usually right :) Seriously, I need reflect on the way I teach photography some time. "What's the Foreground"? "What's the Background?", "How does this photo tell a (whole) Story??" Tractor Myopia..

Here is a picture of the OEM "safety" chain, maybe Kubota calls it a "check" chain?

I was also looking at your pictures. On one side , underneath the bracket with the missing bolt it almost appears as if there is a thick large washer or spacer? I just looked at my B7100 and mine does not have that.

My trusty General 725 calipers say the depth where those bolts go is about 1 inch deep on each side...

Almost Musta been broken off???

Have to take the seat/mount off to get straight-down view and access for (Ug) Easy-Out.

What torque SHOULD those bolts have been taken to??

Meanwhile it's a Nice Day in the Vermont neighborhood.. Sun, Colorful Trees. Not many Leaf Peepers here on my Back Back road...

I don't know, looking at the boss that those bolts are threaded into do not look much longer in total than a inch? The engineer guys should tell us , would most of the force on those bolts be shearing force and not clamping force? In other words , what would be gained by using a deeper hole and longer bolt?

Ken, the notch in the steel just above the PTO shaft is where you hook the chain to hold the arm from moving further down.

I dont see any threads at the top of the hole. Possiblyv a through hole and the threads are in the housing below it.

Whatever preload was applied (torque) when they were installed it is now zero.

I would respectfully disagree. The manual clearly shows and states where to hook the lock chain to. Did you look at the picture from the manual? I know the notch just above the pto and that may be used for a chain in some manor also. It is "almost sideways" from the anchor point of the chain , especially when the 3 pt is raised. If hooked to where you suggested it would not hold a implement "up"

Hmmmm. Yes I see those on both sides.. Maybe manufacturing tolerance taken up. Maybe previous problem and bent bracket didn't fit right??
The right side seems gray painted. (photos)

I pulled the bolt in question to measure.

Dia as Dan said, 12mm
Length from shoulder of head to threaded end is 35 to 36 MM
I do not have a metric thread pitch gauge and if I am measuring correctly from thread to thread I come up 2 mm.
