Auger for B7200 - too much?

Hey all,

I'm looking for feedback/advice about utilizing an auger attachment on my B7200. My main concern.... can it handle it?

EA claims to have a better designed auger for sub-compact and compact tractors that allows the proper leverage to pull the auger up from the ground after digging down.

I'm going to have A LOT of holes to dig in the near future, and the idea of lugging around a tow behind unit on a steep grade sounds like a nightmare. Most of the holes are going to only be 6" in diameter in order to accommodate 4x4 posts.

Engine wise, yes it should handle it fine. They make handheld posthole diggers with a much smaller engine driving it.

If you're referring to the Land Shark model, there is a notation on EA's website that it won't fit some tractors with a ROPS due to the way the ROPS is connected to the tractor.

Make sure your model isn't one of those.

You make a good point about the engine size. This would be the first attachment I've run off the PTO, I'm sure it's plenty strong but I just haven't experienced it yet.

The biggest issue I've seen is not having enough lift force to pull the auger from the ground. It seems the hole auger bit itself, and the leverage play a huge roll in that regard.

I did notice the note about the ROPS, and unfortunately that is the style my tractor has on it. I could either temporarily remove them while using the Auger, or modify them to fit.....

1) is 36" deep good enough for your locale ?

36" Should be okay, but I just realized I was actually looking at the Compact tractor kit which comes standard with 48" bits. The added appeal of that is I can always keep the auger if I sell the 7200.

Thanks for the tip.... I'll call and double check their inventory before ordering.

Take smaller "bites", raise the 3ph more often.... roots or rocks might be an issue. I have a cheap 36" pipe wrench to "reverse" a stuck auger.
