New to tractor. When depress forward or reverse, while the tractor is moving, I can hear a noise like somebody had the e-brake on when driving a car. No matter 2wd or 4wd. Is that the drive shaft? Is that normal? Thank you.

What does it sound like and can you tell about where it's coming from? Is the tractor doing anything else like jerking and seem to be in a bind?

It sounds like slowly driving a car with E brake on. I don't know where it comes from but the noise was only there when the tractor was moving. Other than the noise, everything seems good. I have only owned the tractor for 3 weeks. It is a 2009 B3200.

Or should I say the sound was like when you turned the steer wheel too much, the rubber stucked with some metal part.

If I'm understanding right I believe you are describing normal sound of a HST transmission. They whine kind of like turning the steering in a car but louder.

Hydrostatic transmission make sound, especially depending on load. Like Bulldog said, it is likely normal. Put the tractor in low range, and see if it lessons- if it is normal HST noise, it will be less in low range, because the load is lessened through gearing. You could also listen to another tractor, and see if it is similar or not.
While a HST makes noise, it is normal and not to be feared- just something to get used to. I have come to rely on it- the noise is an indicator of the load I am imposing on the drivetrain.

Hello Hodge:

Like sk123 I'm also new to the HST world and have a concern about the noise my recently acquired B7510 is making. The tractor does have a definite whine when the clutch is released but he weird thing is that the majority of the noise seems to be coming from oil cooler in front of the rad. The sounds changes pitch, gets lower, when you step on the forward or reverse pedal.

Am I being paranoid?

In a nut shell... Yes!:p
Noises in HST are normal, even at the hyd. cooler!;)
And the noise will change depending on load and temperature!

Two weeks ago I prematurely did a full service on my L3200HST. Although it only has 130-some hours on it I didn't feel good following the long wait till the recommended hydraulic oil change. The only original liquid that remains in the tractor is the coolant.

I used SUDT2 and changed all filters, etc. Since then there is noticeably less whine from the tractor. I bought the tractor new about 18 months ago and have no idea what fluid the dealer initially used.

Ah, I see. That might explain the situation. I picked up the tractor in warmer weather and I don't recall really hearing much additional noise when in use. Obviously you could hear the tractor sound change when the clutch was released and again as you depressed either the forward or reverse pedal. Now we're in the freezing range here and there is a much more distinct sound when the clutch is released. That sound does change as you depress the forward or reverse pedals but neither deminishes nor increases. When you stand beside the tractor running with the clutch released there is quite a loud sound coming prmarliy from the hydraulic cooler up front. Performance at this point doesn't seem to have been affected so i will continue to operate the tractor as is and see if anything changes. Just in case your wondering I did check the fluid level first thing and it's with in the operating range on the stick and has not moved since I bougth the machine. Thanks for the advice, will let you know if the situation changes

Ironman,
You might get it to quiet down changing by changing the trans fuild to Kubota SUDT2,It's thinner and flows better at cold temps.

If your cooler has rubber lines running to it, when you drain the fluid out for a change or for service pull the lines and check for anything odd, I seen one time where a hose that was soft and collapsing on itself, they are suction lines and not pressure.

If the noise is consistent and there is no power issues, then it's probably nothing to worry about. If it's under warranty still, have it looked at by the dealer.;)

I doubt very much that they come from the factory with sudt2 in the new machines. When i changed my oil from what ever was in it to sudt2 i also noted much quieter and smoother operations.

If it came fully assembled from the factory it probably had SUDT2 in it.

If it came to the dealer in a crate then it has whatever the dealer had on hand which most of the time is UDT so they can save money.
