Had the ROPS up to do some log moving in the hilly(er) part of my lot and must have got the belt twisted; it will now neither extend nor retract :(.

It's too short to accommodate my ever-more-prosperous girth.

Anyone have a fast solution?

Damn - I like that line " ever-more-prosperous girth "

Is it twisted INSIDE the roll up mechanism ?

Unbolt it from the tractor and work on it on your work bench.

There may be some small lever on the side that will release the pawls and let it unwind.

I recall they were on the inner side and may be covered by the rubber cover.

Debris inside can cause them to "lock." Sometimes, repetitive pulls/releases will free them temporarily.

It was twisted at the end, which prevented retraction and, thereby, unlocking.

Came off pretty easy; one single (tight!) 14mm bolt. I had to use the breaker bar.

Once it's off the boot kind of pulls off, exposing the lock bar. Flip that away from the spool and the spool unlocks:

Make sure the parts are correctly oriented for reassembly:

The retractor sort of rolls into the boot; the fit is weird until you get the boot retention features correctly engaged:

Now my machine is safe to use with the ROPS again; mebbe this will help someone else out.
