Buying rims online?

Has any ever bought rims online?

I have R1’s on currently and want to upgrade to R4’s on my L3200. My current tires are filled with Rim guard. My dealer won’t reuse the Rim guard that I already have in the tires. My local tire shop said that they could reuse it, but they didn’t want to or couldn’t get me the appropriate rims. Plus the dealer is about an hour away. Figuring it would be a lot easier if I could just order the rims online.

You might want to order the tires on rims through a saleman at the dealership. They are whole-goods and can be cheaper than rims and tires separately.

You may need to change the front wheels and tires also if your tractor is 4 wheel drive so the ratio of tire circumference stays constant.

Yeah I’m going to replace all the tires.

The price I got for rims and tires from the dealer was very good but that didn’t include rim guard. Plus they don’t have a way to suck the rim guard out of my current tires to reuse in the new ones.

I was quoted a price of $497 a tire for 15x19.5 from the tire shop. Rims and tires from the dealer was $917.

if you're not going to reuse the old tires

place tire in a large container,remove valve core,rim guard comes out,drill hole in top of tire,use compressed air to 'help' the rest of the RG to come out.

if you need the old tire, just clean the hole, and put a plug into it.

You can purchase a device for installing the Rim Guard in a tire. Just use that in reverse to remove the Rim Guard and put it into 5 gallon pails. Then reverse the process and install it in your new tires. If your old tires are good, then sell them with the rim guard to someone else that wants weighted tires and rims for their tractor. The Rim Guard isn't that expensive, but the labor to install it is the expensive part.

I've had good luck buying used OEM rims for cars/trucks on eBay. That might be worth a look.

If I went this route what size rim would I need for 15x19.5 and 27x8.5x15?

Don’t go through the dealer for loading your tires, find a couple of real farmers and ask them who they use to service their tractor tires. Most farmers will have a tire guy that does road service for tractor tires. That person will have the ability to pump out your tires and reload it into your new tires. The only people who use tractor dealerships for tire repair are homeowners and gentleman farmer types.

I am not sure about the full amount of price gap, but if the tire and wheel are shipped as mounted, then the shipping would be a certainly be cheaper not to mention less packaging and less handling. Not sure that makes up the entire difference but it would be a good start to ship already mounted. (Are they mounted before shipped to dealer? Less packaging less shipping and less handling…that’d make it quite a bit cheaper.)

shipping a raw tire has to be cheaper than tire on rim, based on weight
BTW tire only is $500+, rim only is $215+-, tire ON rim was $350.

so... what's a used rear tire on rim worth, good tread ? New $700+ if bought separately and I KNOW I can't get 1/2 that ( member you can buy them for that at dealer ). Mine have 1000hrs on them, still good grrrip.
