B6200 slow crank trying to jumpstart from battery

I have been jumping my b6200 from the battery for months now, it no longer holds a good charge.
It's been parked for about a month and I went to jump it yesterday and it drained my portable jumper. It turned over very slow like it would on a low battery.

I have a slightly nicer jumper that shows amp usage and when I tried to use it to start it was going from 12v to 6 point something while cranking.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these don't actually require that much to turn over do they?

I'm going to replace the battery today but I have a feeling this isn't going to fix the problem. I've never had a starter go out. Is this a symptom of a bad starter or solenoid? Ignition switch?

When trying to jump a dead battery, the battery will steal most of the Amps that should be going to turn the engine over.
It's like dropping a sponge in a glass of water and still trying to get a drink from the glass.

Replace the battery cables too! Also clean the place on the frame where the ground cable is attached.
There have been many poor cranking complaints on this forum and when we ask for a photo of the top of the battery.

None of the above, probably.

Classic sign of a 'bad' battery and / or poor charging system.

Since it's been doing this for MONTHS, I suspect battery is no good. Odds are the battery cables are bad as well,so replace those. Get OEM ones are at least ones rated for HIGH current with molded ends.
Seems you don't use it too often, so check if it IS charging. Wait a day, then measure battery voltage,write it down, now start tractor, med-high revs, and write down the battery voltage.
Generally a battery will have 12+ volts at 'rest' and then 14+ while charging.
If you don't get a higher voltage while running just after starting, then you may have a 'bad' alternator or a 'loose' belt.
You don't say how old the battery is but they don't make they like they used to, so getting only 5-6 years is the new 'normal'.

In the future,....OP should store the tractor/battery with a low amp (1-2 amp) maintenance charger attached.

It also could be that the bushings at the end of the starter are worn and when he applies power to the starter to turn the engine over that the fields pull the armature down and hold it from spinning. This is a common thing to happen to older engines where the starter has provided thousands of starting cycles.

Another bad thing about jumping a bad battery all the time. Your running low voltage to starter.. they pull more amps and can/ will burn up starter if done to many times. Bad battery can ruin charging system, cables and starter. Good idea to put a battery shut off when you put the new battery in.Maybe a battery tender…. Batteries last a very long time with cheap tender plugged in .Can actually hide the switch as an extra method of security.

I dunno!
I have a total of 14 brand name tender/maintainers.
When I think of "cheap" I think of HF,...and I do not buy "cheap" electrical stuff from HF!
