LA 525 drops before lifting

On a hunch I went to Messicks parts and looked up the LA526. According to them the load check for that loader is $135. Part number is YS020-93100 and again according to them fits 35 other models including - you guessed it - the LA525.

Remembering from old motorcycle days, I know some dealers in a large network will likely have NOS of items no longer listed by the mfg. So I called Marshall's, my local dealer, yesterday and asked the parts mgr if that was correct for Kubota. He said yes then used a system Kubota dealers have to look up NOS for particular items at other dealers. He found about a dozen for this check valve, including 2 in NY.

Then in another neck of the woods and before I could order, my "expert" mobile mechanic let me know he had the valve being sent to me overnight. I should have it today and with no extra cost to me! My opinion of him went up a notch but, then again, his not understanding small tractor hydraulics (works mostly on large construction and earth moving eqpt) was the whole cause of my problems.

Regarding YS020-93100, I cannot understand why that was never offered as a substitute for YS368-93100, the item number for the LA 525! Every time I looked for YS368-93100, the response was always "Product has been replaced by YS031-00100" (quote from Messick's web site); this is the whole spool valve that Messick's sells for $1187.54. I do note that Messick's site calls YS020-93100 only as a "kit valve" whereas YS368-93100 is described as "kit valve, load check." A picture would help. FWIW, Kubota USA site says YS020-93100 "not available" even though Messick's has it. This may remain as one of the unsolved mysteries of the universe.

Overall there is one clear conclusion: you, with only minimal information from an amateur reporter, called it 100% right for both messes. Once again, Thanks Dan!

Temporarily, why not put the check valve from the bucket in the boom section? Bucket jump should be less obnoxious.

For $100, couldn't you make a poppet? Find a bolt the right diameter, cut a plug the right length and drill it the size of the pin. If you have a welder, make a pin out of a nail or screw shank and plug weld it in. No welder, thread the plug and screw a section of screw in it. Chamfer the hole and rivet the end, and/or lock-tite it. Then find a light spring, shouldn't be too critical.
I had thought about using the bucket check valve, but having the bucket sorta out of control would have been worse than the boom. I have to load horse manure from a pit then dump it into a trailer to haul to a veggie farm. Not having tight control of the bucket would have meant s**t falling all over the barnyard and that would have my wife all over me - not in the good way.

On fabricating a check valve, that's waaay beyond my scope.

Go take another closer look at the parts diagram for the LA525. Your NOS part may not be what you need.

According to my 2016 sales contract, my LA 525 serial number is R6038. But my tractor and loader are older than yours so that number doesn't seem right. SN's starting with A must mean early machines and mine was sold 2 years after the L3901 was introduced. Unfortunately, the decal showing the number on the loader is covered by the mount I used for the front post of my cover. I think I can remove that mount to peek at the decal - maybe that is what I should do.

Another poster on Orange Tractor, Carroll DuVall ( https://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/threads/fel-valve-problems.65560/ ), had a problem with the same valve in his spool valve on a different loader. The Yw368-93100 was listed for his loader but he ran into the discontinued problem. He said that a dealer suggested the YS020-93100 and it did fit and worked fine. His problem was not a missing check valve but a broken one. He compared the two check versions and reported that the YS-020-93100 looked the same as the broken YW368-93100, but more robust. I think this means that the Yw368-93100 will likely work in my spool valve even though the YS020-93100 would be better.

Am I on target?

I can't decipher the serial numbers. Have a look at the p/n on the loader valve. Here is mine - clearly the newer one tjat uses the current load check kit.

When this thread came up in the new posts I read it with great interest. A friend has a L35 and his tractor loader has done this from day one. He bought the machine used with very few hours on it when the original owner passed away suddenly.

The L35 uses a Husco 5000 valve. You have to separate the sections to get to the load checks. I'd recommend doing it on a bench.

Looks like that is only held in by thr adjoining section and could easily ne overlooked or fall out during assembly????

Yep, if you're not expecting it, that spring jumps right out. No problem if you assemble it lying flat.
