I read it three times, what am I missing here??
What I was referring to was your statement "Your machine should only have two safety switches. One for the clutch, and the other for the PTO. Rocking the treadle shouldn't affect starting the machine."

It appears that you were denying the existence of a safety switch on the hydrostat control pedal.

I have not been able to find a zerk near the pedal.

Also, the loader lever sticks a little. I'm supposed to grease it, but where? I raised the boot and saw nothing that looked like a zerk.

Is there a particular grease I should use? I have a tube of John Deere NLGI-1 I haven't touched yet.
On my tractor the grease zerk is sticking straight up underneath the floor mat.

Does this happen with the key switch in the ON position or the START position?
I just got back to this today.

When I turn it to ON, all three lights turn on, but the glow plug light goes off right away. In the START position, only the other two lights are on.

The battery is from 2019, but it tests okay, and when the tractor cranks, it cranks strongly. The terminal connections look great.

The shutoff solenoid is looking pretty crusty, so I am replacing it. The tractor started once today, and I had to stop it manually because the key did not work.

I crawled around under the tractor and removed some of the covers from the dash area. I have seen no sign of the plunger switch yet, but I will use the photo provided above and see if I can match it to anything.

I would like to check the ignition switch. I can't figure out how to remove it. It's also hard to get the dash out.

I found a nice mouse nest under the rubber cover by the clutch, but I could not find any chewed wires.

It looks like they made some changes to this tractor during its run. That must explain why it takes a Los-Alamos-level research effort to figure out whether there is an HST safety switch.

I found the switch and connector. Can someone advise me on how to open the connector? I would like to bypass the switch to see if the tractor starts.

Replacing that switch looks like fun. I think they built the tractor around it.

Maybe there is a problem wherever the wires from the switch go. I have no idea where that is, however.

Got the connector loose.

Removed the shutoff solenoid. No change. Reattached it. Shorted the HST switch wires. No change.

Now I am trying to figure out where those wires go, to see if there is a break.

I have been trying to figure out the schematic. I studied electronics while getting a physics degree, and I have designed and built guitar amps, but this diagram is full of stuff I have never seen before. It took me a while to figure out that some of the symbols represent connectors. I still don't know what a ground with a circle on top of it is.

It appears the current has to go through the HST switch AND the PTO switch, which is under the PTO lever under the right fender.

I have another PTO. I don't see any sign of a second PTO switch on the diagram. I don't feel like crawling around right now and trying to find an additional wire.

It seems to me the HST switch is a nanny option unlikely to do me any good. Who starts a tractor with the pedal depressed? I don't really understand the PTO switch, since I have to start the tractor with the clutch in anyway. Lawyers ruin everything.

I am thinking it's time to have this thing towed to the dealer. It has a big ballast box on it. Can't get that off without hydraulics. I hope it starts some time today so I can get ready.

The PTO and HST switches stop the tractor ànd shut it off should you have the misfortune of falling off or being thrown from the tractor. You might want to mull on that before firing the nanny.

I believe you are thinking of seat switches. If I get thrown off, the engine and PTO will keep working. When I get on and off this tractor, I usually leave it running.

Depends on the tractor snd I dont know the details of your older machine. But for decades now you can stand up or get off the L series tractor if you want and the engine continues to run as long as the PTO is not engaged and the HST pedal is in neutral. On the current L series machines the HST and PTO switches work in combination with the seat switch and shut the tractor off if you are not in the seat AND the PTO is running OR the HST pedaal is not in neutral. Bypass those switches and the tractor will first run over you and then chop you to bits with the mower.

Thank God I don't have a sweat switch. I'll bet it costs me a thousand dollars to get this tractor fixed with just the two switches it has. I will bypass whatever I can in order to avoid this problem. I'm looking at over $200 just to get it towed both ways.

If you go back to post# 40, all you need to do is ground the terminal on the load side of the starter relay trigger coil and you will simultaneously bypass the HST switch, PTO switch, and all the connecting wire between.

Thanks. Now I have to find out where the starter relay is. Kubota's schematics and parts diagrams are not the easiest to read.

See attached. It's under the dash bolted back to back with another relay. If I remember correctly, I cut the wire on mine, put a ring terminal on it, and used the mounting bolt as my ground.

Maybe I should just drop $2000 at the dealership and wait a month for my tractor every time it won't start.
Thats one option. Or do as other folks do and take the time to read the manual so you can fix it yourself. Complaining does not advance the ball.

I am taking the time to read the manual. That's how I know how bad the diagrams are.

Because the solenoid appeared to be falling apart, I put a new one in today. The tractor did start after I rocked the pedal, but it did not stop until I used the shutdown.

I don't have much time for this right now, so I will be here off and on for a while.
