Wildfire - three questions

Where do you get the cylindrical containers (shown on page 24 of this thread) that are on your FEL bucket?

If you are storing steel components in these does it rust them due to condensation? They look like they would be good for wrenches and pins and such.

If you have rusting problems in your tool box or containers have you tried Zerust corrosion inhibitor (or similar product)?

Heck it just goes to show what I know. I just thought it was a completely useless mod but if you think it's not then that's a Hugh plus I guess :)

Those are majic fenders, installed them and all the dirt vanished.

Look at that Orange shine...
Ya you noticed that too. Cool. ;)

Pathetic,, just plum pathetic!!! Now I've got to go to the golf cart store and John Deere. Nice day for a bike ride.
Oh man I'm sorry. I knew I shouldn't have posted this stuff on here. My apologizes. :p

Russell I modded the FEL on my 5740 to hold tools and corrosion wasn't an issue (yet). I don't know how the plastic tubes will work out yet because they're new to me. They do have two small vent holes in them so that may help. thanks for the link. I'll be sure and check it out. Here's the link to the tubes.

OK guys. This will be my final mod. Well it's really not a mod but just an extension of a mod. It's one I wanted to share with you because I have never seen it mentioned on OTT before. Mrs. 4shorts is now into "Doming" Yup, she sure is.

What's "Doming" you ask? Well Doming is when you take a special two part epoxy that's UV rated and won't yellow in the sun and with a special gun you can turn your decals into an emblem. By now you much realize I'm not "Normal" and yes I got excited seeing this done and came up with a hundred ideas of where it could be used so Wifey "Domed" the decals on the fenders for me. She did some Kubota decals and even Domed some 30th Anniversary decals to put on "Candy" (she's our Ford Mustang):D

So I'll end the mods with this info and some photo's and I hope the photo's do the "Doming" justice. I'll be around to answer any questions though.

Another round of mods might start in the fall. Will it be more of the BX? might be. Will it be another tractor? might be. Will it be a Kubota? Might not be ;)

And to think I wasn't going to even post this mod :D
I'm glad you liked it and as always I appreciate your comments. Its been a busy time since this little BX came home. The mods thread got 62.000 hits on the other site and around 13.000 here so there was plenty of interest and comments. I think the only guy in North America that couldn't bring himself to like any of it was Eric lol.

The purpose of this tread was really not about what I could do but what manufactures don't do to build a better machine and also to show others that IF you can think of a mod for your own needs you CAN do it. Yes it will take time, you'll hit hurdles and challenges but it is possible to do it.

If I keep this tractor it will one that I will enjoy using for many years and that's partly because of the mods I've done to it to personalize it.

Now let me ask you folks a question. How many of you thought that this many mods could be done to a small BX like this before this thread started?

- Full three piece skid plate
- Ditch lights
- Reverse alarm
- The Claw
- Mirrors
- 3 pt hitch
- Back hoe boom lights
- Chainsaw answer axe holder
- Front Bucket spill guard
- Eyelet on Back hoe bucket
- Bucket hooks
- Rear light guards
- Front removable bumper
- Kubota steering wheel spinner
- Front and rear wheel spacers
- Front fenders
- Custom module lightbar featuring a 20" LED front light with rear tactical light
- Mod change to SMS mount
- Horn
- Kubota fender light added
- Kubota forks added
- Custom trailer hitch called Tow Guard
- Mouldings and graphics added.
- Doming added to graphics.
- Extra storage tubes added.

CHIPPER:

- Full aluminum lower housing added.
- Removable castors added to move unit around.
- Looper holder added.
- Tool box added

Two videos and hundreds of photos.

61.000 hits and its all done. ( almost)

Wildfire, The quality of workmanship is nothing short of amazing. Impressive work on the mods. I hope you don't mind as I have a question. In your post #306 you show some "kubota diesel power" sticker or decals. Are they something you made or where they purchased from a dealer? I'm about to start assembly on a project and wanted to display it was kubota powered. Thanks and it has been a pleasure to read through this thread.

Thanks a lot. Glad you've enjoyed seeing my mods and my work. Well as you can see in post #306 my wife does all my graphics. I got her involved when I seen this EBay ad and it really pi$$ed me off not only with his price but he wanted $7.00 to ship it to me so we went to work and did our own. My wife is actually turning them into emblems now with her "Doming" process so I'm very happy with them. To answer your question. Yes they are available from the very dude that made me look for an alternative. Just hope he's more reasonable with your shipping.

Why do you keep getting the impression I don't like your mods? I like them, its always a joy to watch and see how things evolve. Everything you have done on all the tractors you own is neat stuff thats very unique and nobody else has them. I'm one of the few members who remembers back to your L4750 and the mods you did on that tractor.

I really want to know why the ZTR is completely untouched and all original.

Also very interested in these awesome looking emblems your wife is making. I'd love to have a few of those made from my logo for my landscape business. Just no idea what I'd do with them but I want some!

Picked up a B5320 ballast box for the BX. First of all the friggen ballast box wasn't even built square. Then one lower pin wasn't even straight so that made for a few adjustments. The reason I did anything with the ballast box was because it really couldn't work comfortably with the Quick Hitch. The ballast box pins were to close to the body of the box and hooking up the QH to it was to tight so I made new adapters and welded them to the existing mounts. I filled in the original holes that the pins were in as well.

While I was doing this job I figured I may as well put a tow receiver in the box as well so I did that. I also fabricated a stand for the box with castors on it that rated at 250# each. They were given to me so the cost was right on. The stand was built out of some 1" angle I had laying around the shop. Later on I might make a stand that will push into the receiver instead of the stand but this will work for now.

I also decide to add a shovel, hoe, and rake holder to the top I fabricated out of 1/8th plate. I used exhaust pipe for the holders and capped the bottoms. I use a hole saw to cut the holes but the pipe was a bit undersized so I swelled them on the pipe bender to make them fit nicer then mig welded them to the underside of the cover.

The Cat 1 pins were sloppy in the QH so I had some end pieces of round stock here so I used those to machine adapters to go over the OEM pins and reduce any slop in the QH. The top pin ended up with a bronze pin because that's what I had that was close to what I needed.

The box now weighs 101.2 lbs. Another 400 lbs should do it. May use just sand yet but not sure. Anyway, here's a few photo's. I took many more but I can't post them all but these will give you an idea of how I did it.

awesome ,thats the first tractor I have seen with rod holders and a cooler. Usually only see that stuff on jeeps. Now you have to make a cool holder for you ORV permit.
( the guys out in the midwest are looking at this and going Huh?)
