I have an issue with the PTO gear shift lever on my 2016 L2501. I recently purchased the tractor with 259 hours on it. The PTO works properly during engagement. However, when I move the lever to the disengage position, the control shaft does not move all the way to disengage. The previous owner tied a string to it in order to "help" move the shaft into the disengage position by pulling on it. The shaft is moved into the engage position by the gear shift lever/cable. It is designed to move into the disengage position by a spring when the cable tension is released. I almost seems as if the spring is not strong enough. I removed the control cable from the shaft to make sure the cable was not binding; it is not. Thoughts?

New spring?
Add a helper spring?
Adjust the cable?
Lube the shaft?

Thanks, A new spring (part 050) is on order. The cable is not the issue; I disconnected it and the shaft will still not return to the disengage position on its own.

Lube the shaft where it extrudes from the case, right at the spring, and turn it back and forth a couple of times with a crescent wrench or pliers. It will then work like a new one.

Thanks for the help; that did it. Amazing what a little oil will do. Now I feel bad about bothering you guys with such a trivial issue.

Thanks again.

Call the dealer, there is a bulletin for that issue.

TSB-2023-028-E-R1

The PTO lever may become stuck and not return to neutral. Solution: If the PTO lever is stuck and does not return to neutral, install the LEVER, KIT (S-PTO) per the procedure beginning on page 3. Note: If the PTO cable is damaged, replace the PTO cable with the appropriate cable listed in the K-Pad for your model
