The background: We have Cox TV/internet/phone here at our new to us house. I was not very happy with the size of our bill every month and then I received a promo from Frontier who just ran fiber down our street :)

So far:

Had Frontier fiber installed a couple of days ago, just for the internet. Paying for 500mb down, 500mb up. With Cox we were getting 500mb down and 50mb up.

Just made the changeover a few minutes ago and ran speedtest.net:

Other than the upload speed going from 50mb to 500+mb there is also the small difference in cost.

Cox was $155/mo, Frontier is $24.99/mo (for a year, then it goes up to $44.95)

This is the classic no brainer

Monopolies bad, competition good

We went through the same thing about a month ago.
Had Concast/Xfinity for 20 years. Started out 99.00 a month for tv, internet and landline. Kept raising over the years all the way to 297.00 a month!
Switched to Frontier all in for 76.00 a month.

We had one provider here in FL (Spectrum), and cost was $69.95 +TV.
Frontier came in and cost went down to internet $44.95+ TV
Spectrum said ...oh no...and dropped their cost to $29.99 +TV
Went back to Spectrum, and total cost is now $29.99 + $12.50 for pirated TV.

Comcast at Summer home in MA, is about $155 per month, for both internet and TV.
CRAZY !

Oddly, ISP/TV/Phone providers have some of the worst customer service reviews across many industries. Charter/Spectrum, Comcast, etc., etc.

My employer is desperately trying to get away from an antiquated phone service system in favor of VOIP. At 600 lines, we're a sizeable account for anyone.

There's promise of near-term savings of 60%/annum.

I'm concerned with long-term escalations. Many contractual assurances will get you 5 or 10 years but need to keep and eye on the fine print....

Some of your wireless (cell phone) providers will offer $X and no contract. Not always, but sometimes that contract can protect you from escalations.

It's all a racket.
