6 ply tire to 14 ply tire?

Looking at replacing the 15-19.5 R14 rear tires on my LX2610 with 15-19.5 R4's. Kubota specs a 6 ply R4 for the rear. Many of the 15-19.5 R4 tires available are a 14 ply. Any issue with going from a 6 ply tire to a 14 ply tire?
Dealer is recommending 14ply tires over the 6ply.

It will ride like a 1930's lumber truck.
I hope the tractor has a good suspension seat, you're going to need it.
And FYI any strong hit to the tire translates into a hit to the tractor, things can break.

The 14ply tire is 22 lbs heavier than the 6ply. Would it really be that much stiffer? This is what the dealer is recommending I put on the tractor.

OH yes way stiffer!
One other thing to note a 6 ply has a max pressure of 30 psi, where a 14 ply tire has a max of 70 psi.
While you don't need to run them at max psi, you most certainly can not run them at min pressure as you will do belt damage.

Yep..and min pressure will also be subject to wheel-slip on the rim.… loss of traction and tire damage.

You need to find a new dealer to get your tires from if they are recommending a 14ply tire for a tractor that size. 14 ply tires are for full size backhoes and payloaders. Not tractors. Go find a tire dealer that deals in tractor and commercial vehicles tires.

Contacted a tire dealer that deals in tractor and commercial truck tires and he also recommended 14ply tires? I asked him about the stiffer sidewall and he claimed I would never notice it.

Any chance one of those dealers could give you a reference to somebody that actually put the 14 ply tires on a tractor your size, so you could get some feedback from somebody that actually did it?

I know it’s a different piece of fruit, but I had all four tires on my BX2200 foam filled about 18 years ago. It must’ve added some stiffness to the tires, and perhaps I just got used to bouncing around, but it never bothered me and still doesn’t.

My dealer charges a lot LESS for premounted tires on rims than just tires only ! Still can't get my head around that but.... If I buy 2 new premounted rears, I get TWO fronts (premounted) for free.

Curious though, as to why your dealer doesn't want to sell you the same tires that are on your tractor ?

I have R14's and their not the right tire for the southwest. The large spacing between the lugs leaves the tire exposed to punctures and cuts. Want to go to R4s which have wider lugs and leave less of the tire body exposed. Never had a problem with R4s in the past, different tractor.

If punctures are the main concern, then I would at least price the cost of getting the rear tires foam filled if they are still in good physical condition aside from a couple punctures that were repaired.

Getting a larger tire foam filled is not cheap, but neither are new larger tires, and the new larger tires can still become punctured and be an issue. Just food for thought nothing less or more…

Edit: foam filling the rear tires gives you some significant ballast, but the other side of the coin is they’re heavy if you don’t want the weight.

its a tractor not a bmw. Rather have heavier tires than worry about ride quality.

I always change my tires to the highest ply I can get.
GENSCO tire has 12-16 ply and thats usually my go to since they are a hour from me.
WAY less flats than 6-8 plys. I dont notice any difference in ride to me.
