don't just blame the boomers....
I keep checking to see if ANYONE makes a battery powered regular cab,short box pickup ? Nope, just 4wd, 4 door ,micro beds.
The 'regular cab' pickup is becoming a rarity, unless you want a stripper 'work truck,' and some brands aren't even making those. Seems like everybody is only making double cabs anymore. Even the extended cab models are getting rare.

I can buy a Ford gasser but yeesh, if EVs are so great,why not make one ?
Then again ,i don't understand why some buy $100K pickups to haul 2 kids around....

The only way i'd consider an EV is if there was no fancy software and updates and constant connectivity. I don't trust other people to decide what's right for me.

We should adopt the European model of cars. In Europe, they drive mostly diesel cars, and it is a rarity to see a gasoline car. I can remember when the American brands were large cars, and then in 1977, the American automobile manufacturers decided to start downsizing the automobiles that they made. This continued for about another 20 years when SUVs started to become the latest rage of automobile design. The European and Asian automobile manufacturers were continuing to build smaller cars until the last 5 or 6 years. Today all the small Asian and European cars are getting larger. A good example of this is the VW, Hyundai, and Kia, just to name a few. For the most part, all these manufacturers make cars exclusively for the North American market with internal combustion engines and produce almost exclusively diesel cars for their domestic markets. There are more gallons of diesel out of a barrel of crude oil than there is gasoline. In the US we lace our gasoline with ethanol which only benefits the farmers who produce the corn to make the ethanol. That corn would be better being used to feed the rest of the world than to be burned in an internal combustion engine.

You must be an evil socialist commie with talk like that. My wife NEEDS an 8,000lb 4WD SUV to drive the kids 1 mile to school because she can't get them out of the house in time to catch the school bus.

YES, first step... reduce North America to the size of Europe !!
Heck it takes two very LONG friggin DAYS to get out of Ontario, well to Thunder Bay.. from Hamilton.
Only 4 MORE provinces and 4000 KM and I can put my feet into the Pacific Ocean.

Also....Europe is TINY, which is why they have a huge network of electric trains for the masses to ride.

Those of you who like EVs, enjoy. I will never own one. I also do not wish to subsidize yours.
I do own one!
A (used) 2006 model 48V Club Car.
I love it.
Carries 83 yo. me (and small tools) around my property.
Very handy!
Would NEVER consider any sort of bigger EV though!

Canada is bigger than the United States and has more roads than the United States. This must be the reason that you pay much more for gasoline in Canada than we do in the US. :giggle:

That makes diesel cars even more attractive. Many can go 700 miles between filling stops.

they buy those because they think that they can make the payment, and having them is a "status". "I can "afford" a $100,000 pickup" mentality. Look at me. yay.

Neighbor is like that. They make good money but not "that" good.

back on ev's. I had to do some more training on them. While they might be less expensive to produce (and that is debatable....I mean, they can put taxes and stuff on ICE power and "make" it more expensive. Anyway, read this. EV is GOING to be more expensive to fix. It has to be. When I have to rope off a dedicated work space, and I have to have a second tech in the roped off work bay, we go from $150/hr to $300/hr real quick. Maybe $305, to pay for the barricades and such that we have to buy.

a dedicated work space for them means the shop has to get bigger which means the building has to be added to. We gotta buy barricades which are OSHA and government approved. We (techs) have to buy insulated special gloves which require recertification every so often. This stuff all costs money, and more money than working on current ice vehicles. To think that a shop/dealer is going to just eat those costs is not true. Those costs are gonna be paid by the consumer. Boss and I were talking about this the other day and $300/hr in the future is not out of the question for most of the dealers we've spoken with.
