I have never harvested a turkey, never really interested me. But if times get tough, I know I have plenty of 2 legged door dash meals running around.

I did see a few birds on one camera yesterday. Apparently my cooking abilities stink. As I've cooked spring turkey and fall turkey. I've cooked them in a browing bag on low in the oven. On the grill. And the ones I've cooked were like a rubber band. A friend had a large pot oil cooker and his wild bird was at least moist and not rubbery.

We love wild turkey here. Slow braze until it falls off the bones, usually 6 to 8 hours and it makes the best gravy with the drippings. never had a tough one ... patience when cooking is the key to a tender bird. It's not a domestic chicken, but becomes just as tender with the slow braze and poultry spices added for delicious flavor.

Never got into turkey hunting. Had no turkeys to hunt when I first got into woodchuck hunting.

Ironically, now we have a lot of turkeys and no woodchucks….🤓

According to my GSD, it’s time to start looking for sheds. She found this one on a walk this afternoon.

Dove and quail require a lot of attention. I think both are pretty fast?

Ruffed grouse and Ring-necked Pheasants were common here for many decades. Guys used to breed some high-end pointers and setters.

Grouse are very quick; pheasants not so much.

This grouse had the misfortune of walking underneath my tree stand in search of beech nuts, and ended up being that evening’s meal.

Those are so tasty….😋

We’ve got a lot of non-migratory Canada Geese now. Wasn’t an issue even 30 years ago. They really don’t belong here in January

I don’t hunt anymore but would like to get back to it.

The NYS hunting regulations don’t make a lot of sense to me last I checked.

Good eating birds and they should target the season to favor harvesting the non-migratory birds in my opinion.

The last couple posts got me thinking how much I used to like rabbit….

Hmm….something to think about after I retire…🐇

The dove can be, especially if it's a bit windy, best to hunt over planted and manipulated fields. The quail are a little bit easier if you have a trained bird dog to flush. I have a few covey, but I limit a few birds out of each covey. I would love to have a lot more quail, but that would require getting rid of the cows...

I set up a game camera on a dead horse. Got a few pics of coyotes showing up around 5:00 a.m. Guess where I was yesterday morning?

Pics taken later that day.

Over 30 turkeys have made their way through this morning. Today has been the most active day so far this spring.

They are so spread out I can't get a picture of all of them together.

Nice pictures Ken! Thanks for sharing. I believe I have 9 preference points if you ever decide you need to harvest him. They make wonderful sausage of all types.

Thanks! At this stage of the game I enjoy seeing them and thus far have not become a nuisance problem . That may change the first time I am chased back into my Jeep! lol.

Here is another video I recovered from my little wildlife pond camera yesterday.

Crazy opening spring turkey hunt!

Not a very nice spring day, rainy , cold, windy but my buddy and I planned to meet at my land and hunt from my box blind. Figured it would be more of a visiting day than anything else. Birds really where not talking, guess due to the weather.

My buddy had purchased a new higher end hen turkey decoy which he set about 20 yards out from the blind. Besides the 7 total jakes, 2 hens and 2 toms(we took neither of the two today) we had this very young Jake spend a total of an hour violating my buddy's new decoy. He left at one point and came back about a half hour later and gave her another what for, lol.

Actually a interesting show the poor guy put on.
