Apparently, burned up the hydraulic pump!

Been moving snow all morning after the 36" dump we got.
Lost all hydraulics and the pump is hot and smoking.

This is one area of the tractor I am not so familiar with,
as the hydraulics have been trouble free since 2015 when I purchased the tractor.

The aftermarket replacements on-line have a tapered/keyed shaft, but also a nut?
The manual merely says "pull straight back", is it possible these pumps have multiple uses?

I got the tractor moved out of the way,
but starting was difficult, guessing due to the failed pump and pressure to rotate the pump and fluid?

Going to start the disassembly now.
Has any one used Reliable Aftermarket Parts?
They have one for $194.99

Tapered shaft uses a nut to pull the tapers together. Does the pump come out with a gear on the shaft?

RAP is a retailer selling the usual collection of third party parts. Dont expect much technical help from them.

Listing says pump also used on L185. Here is what that applicstion looks like - gear mounted on tapered shaft.

Well apparently that question was dumb and pre-mature, DUH, there is a gear on the shaft!
Next time pay better attention to the picture in the book.

Oddly enough, the pump seems okay,
I will break it down and inspect.

I am not a believer in coincidences, but the tractor is very hard to start all of a sudden?
Needs to crank over a minute or so before starting, but at least it is in the shop,
out of what will be mud shortly!

I have used Reliable, and I absolutely WOULD NOT recommend them.
Had a damaged in shipping issue (poor packing), and they balked at replacement.
They may be the cheapest, but..... buyer beware!

I would not be taking the pump apart.

I would pull your old pump first, as there was several configurations used for these older tractors, and it doesn't always follow an exact line.

I've gotten tons of parts from reliable, no issues ever.

FYI: You can start and run the tractor with the pump removed, it won't pump oil out of the motor or anything. I just cover the hole with tape to keep water, dirt out.

I am almost more concerned with the sudden 'hard starting' at this point.
A quick check shows 12VDC to the glow plugs,
but need to continue with snow removal at this point.

Check the engine oil level!

Hydraulic pump may have over filled the engine crankcase! May not be spinning fast enough?

I really wouldn't keep running it like that.

Is it cranking at normal speed?
Or is it dragging?
If it's just being hard to start and it's spinning at normal speed then it's a glow plug or fuel delivery issue.

If it's dragging then it could be a pump issue, or a engine issue, like a bearing seizing.

Who knows, is cavitation or loss of prime a possibility?
Hydraulics is NOT my forte, it spins freely and the remaining
oil in the pump 'flows'.
I may partially submerge in oil and spin to see what happens.
Fortunately, I got most of what I needed the tractor for before this
happened.

The last big task, the back of the house, will be for tomorrow, by shovel!

A clogged filter / screen can cause the pump to cavitate and overheat.

The best way to test a pump is on the tractor. Measure pressure directly at the outlet. Here is a good video showing how starting at about 2:30. You do not need the flow meter just the gauge and needle valve.

Well, it seems very odd, but I suddenly have not one but two bad glow plugs?
Hydraulics stop working, engine stalls, hard to start=bad glow plugs?

I guess there is such a thing as coincidence-maybe?
