Engine oil recomendations

Just bought a 2021 l2501. has 90 hrs on it and I do not believe anyone has done a 50 hr on it. The filters look original. No records of any changes. Need to know what engine oil would be best. I am going to dealer and pick up filters And some hydraulic oil today.

In your tractor description on your profile you have it listed as a Ls2501, it's not, it's either a L2501F 2wd gear drive, L2501D 4wd gear drive, or L2501H 4wd hydrostatic drive.

As far as oil Rotella T6 is one of the top recommended, 15w40 is good for your location.

If it’s covered under warranty I’d probably stick with the oem kubota oil for your tractor. Not because it’s better just incase something happens to motor during warranty they couldn’t blame me for using improper oil recommendations. I’d also consider getting a WSM for your tractor since it looks like you’re gonna be doing some of the work and maintenance yourself. Folks on ott are great with helping and solving issues but nothing beats having a paper or digital copy at your finger tips. Even your operators manual has some of the basic info you’ll want. I guess that is if you got it with the tractor.

Above 14°f Kubota recommends 10w30 or 15w40 (my preference is the 15w). I'm sure the 4w would be fine, but I stick to factory recommendation under warranty.
As long as the oil is a diesel oil with API classification of CI-4 or newer (CJ-4 or CK-4) there will not be a warranty issue with using whatever flavor of the approved viscosity (10w30 or 15w40) suits your taste. Manufacturers cannot require you to use their oil.

As per your owners manual:

Heavy duty diesel engine oil carrying an API CJ4 - now superceded by CK4 - service approval.

Viscosity grade 10W30 for all season use or 15W40 for use when ambients do not fall below 15F.

Original factory filters would have been painted Gray - if it is "white" or another color, it has been changed.

and I believe that is pretty old info… about back when there was a national helium reserve..which subsequently was privatized?
Helium was plentiful back then but the gov’t (NASA) paid inflated prices for it…. so the reserve was privatized I believe, and helium has since become in-demand for medical devices, space, etc. …for awhile it was feared there’d be a shortage. I think they’ve solved the problem with gas extraction…but I doubt anyone is “giving” it away.

I did exactly that. Just got all kubota filters and oil, just to be on the safe side. Was as I thought no 50 hour ,all original filters painted gray. Is now up to date with all new filters and oil.

I'm one of those fully synthetic nut jobs! Schaeffer 9000 SynShield® OTR Plus Full Synthetic 5W-40 is my drink of choice in both tractors, the generator and my F250, and that's all year round. The M1078 takes way too much oil so it gets good ol' dyno juice. I run Yamalube fully synthetic in the current outboard and will do the same in the new motor after the 20 hour break-in period.

The tractors get Kubota filters and probably always will.

I use Valvoline super blue synthetic diesel oil 5W-40. I use the oil in my Dodge/Cummins truck and Kubota. I use Kubota filters in the tractor and Cummins/Fleetgard filters in the truck.

Do you ask the manufacturer of your tractor, truck or car to provide the data to support the oil weights that they list in the owner's manual, or the API requirements? It's going to take a long time to get from A to B if that's how you roll.

Which oil is beast..? Animal-Fat such as Tallow… but when it solidifies it doesn’t pump well.

Data for the best engine oil is found in the Owner’s Manual and in the Engine Engineering/Production specifications.

Indeed not. I use the lubricant that features the loudest/most colourful advertisement.

Or scantily clad wimmenz.


Further, regarding grade: I use data, factual and anecdotal, from the 1940's and 50's. Therefore, I choose a straight grade such as SAE 50. "If it's good enough for the Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp then it's good enough for my BX23S lawn mower."
