OBITUARY

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was as his birth records were lost long ago in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticking plaster to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust, his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility and his son Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

I didn't write this, but heard it in a sermon, found it online, and passed it along. I agree with it.

He and his whole family will be sorely missed by all intelligent people, and I hope we will see their like again someday, but I'm beginning to doubt it.....

He and his whole family will be sorely missed by all intelligent people,
I think there is the problem..
I don't see any hope for the future as I continue to confuse the well educated youngsters by giving them a few pennies to round up the change after they have punched it into the register.. The "Deer in the headlights" look that they give me back says it all, and the statement of "But I already punched it in" just confirms my lack of faith in the future generations :(

Honestly, any more I just do it to amuse myself :p

Before I retired, one of the groups I worked for did research on various sensor technologies, and each project had a name & a project number. "Quartz Pressure Sensor, project #123456789", for example. On one occasion, I was assigned some work by a scientist who told me to get the project number from our newly hired, multi-degreed, college graduate CPA/Auditor/Project Number Controller. I asked this person if she could please give me the project number for the "Quartz Pressure Sensor" project so I could charge my time for the work. Her response was "Sure, just give me the project number, and I can look that up for you.":confused::confused: I restated my request, and got the same response.:confused::confused: I spent 30 minutes attempting to explain that if I had the project number, I wouldn't need her to look it up..... that all I wanted her to do was look up the project by name & give me the associated number..... never made a dent. I finally gave up & told the scientist I could not perform the work without the number. I run into similar paragons of brainpower more & more these days.

Its a crying damn shame the education system has failed us with this "no child left behind" bullshit because of all the foreigners climb over a tall ass fence and come here causing the issues. My mom works with a 20 year old girl just 2 years out of high school and she can not read time on a clock with hands on it. Unless its digital she can't tell the time.

Also what's really sad is so many people become so dependent on technology that they would have no clue how to do things the old fashioned way if the power went out and the technology was down and not in use. People can't do basic math with a pencil and paper.

The art of conversation face to face with people has been throw out the damn window because people are nose deep in their cell phones, talking, texting, updating and all that stupid shit.

Basic manners are a thing of the past with please and thank you and yes sir and no ma'am.

Eric, you hit it right on the head, several years ago we had a rather nasty snow storm here inthe coal country and I ran for 13 days on the gen set,, now when life got back to shall I say normal, the local paper ran so many letters to the editor aout HOW THEY LOST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF FROZEN FOOD due to no power,,, My oldest daughter, said dad we had boxes out in the snow banks keeping everything frozen and the guy next door lost everything and he couldnt figure out why we didnt.. Thankfuly my kids learned to think out side the box when they were young, (how to hunt and trap and fish and garden and can) both have collage degrees but both can live with out so much of the things so many take for granted.
Yes no child left behind is a big bust,, when I was in school you failed a grade you went to SUMMER SCHOOL not a good thing cause you messed with Dads vacation,, not a good thing to do,,,lol
