Would someone please post a picture of a "properly fitting SSQA pin" when its engaged.

I will check this weekend, but I am quite sure mine is like the OP's.

I am almost 100% sure that when engaged, my pin hits about 5/8 of the way up (from the tip of the pin.)

Having a properly fitting reference would help a lot....(at least for me).
Look at Smokeydog's post #8

I find there's a fair bit of variation between vendors SSQA attachments and think Smokeydog's solution is the way to go

Not sure where you're seeing 16-3/4". I referenced those drawings you sent (thanks btw) and looks like the plate on my bucket is a pretty close match (reads right around 16" on my yardstick which is tucked up inside the angled sleeve at the top of my plate).

Here are the measurements from the plate on my bucket.
The plates are on the money so your SSQA adapter is what needs to be altered.
If it were mine I would add a 3/8" or 1/2" plate on the top lip to bring it up 3/4 of an inch.
You'll have to measure which size plate at the angle, comes up to 16" when attached to the lip.
Tack it on and check fit.

right picture (Kubota13), looks like 16 3/4", just left of 'CROS' on the yardstick.
He's not measuring to the pocket, he's measuring to the bend, 16", ok 15 7/8" if you want to be super technical, but the top of the yard stick is not tapered to fit the bevel so it's probably 16" exactly.
And 16" to the bend is right on the money.

Outstanding. Thanks for talking me through this. Any insights re: welding on tractors? I've read that I should disconnect the battery, clamp the cables together, and be sure my ground is as close to my work as possible. Any personal experience? Should I just remove the SSQA altogether?

It'll go faster ,better to do the repair with the SSQA off the tractor. Usually it takes longer to properly 'setup' for the welding, than the actual weld. With the pieces on a solid bench, you can get 'adjust' ,shimmy' do whatever's needed easier. Also no chance of any damage to the tractor due to welding currents !

You don't have a computer in that tractor, so your safe to just pull the negative battery cable and have at it.
Just keep the welding ground on the same part as what your welding so that it doesn't arc through any bushings to get to the weld.

If you lay one piece of flat stock across both pads you can keep it nice and square, then after you tack and dry fit it to confirm weld it up and cut out the center.

I thought it was determined the adapter is what was off. If so, welding a plate on the bottom only make THAT implement fit correctly. Other implements could/would have the problem. The welded steel to the height fixes all attachments.
