I have an V3300 Kubota engine in a Wood Chipper. I am having problems getting it started and would like to perform a compression test. I have purchased a tester from Harbor Freight. It seems like I need a special adapter for the V3300. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know where I might get any special adapters to perform the test?

Can't help with the adaptor question but here is a link to a manual if you don't have one.

Thanks for the information on the manual. In that manual they list special tools for compression testing. They have quite a few listed, but do not specifically indicate which one is for the V3300. My Kubota parts place does not list special tools for the engines. In short I still need help with this if someone out there can make a suggestion.

Thanks.

Harbor Freight sells two diesel compression test kits. You want the cheaper one as that one contains an adapter to fit Kubota glow plug holes. Should be U.S. General - item#93644

$30 or so...

Hope this helps!

Do you need a special adaptor to test in the injector threads then?

Yes.

Neither Harbor Freight kit has an adapter to test in the injector hole.

The HF kit only has an adapter to fit the glow plug hole.

If you can get your hands on an old injector you can build up the piece and put the fitting on it to connect with the gauge.
I have one that I bought years ago for the old VW and Mercedes diesels. It is just a dummy injector that torques into the hole and attaches to the gauge.
Do you suspect a compression issue? Or just routine check?
Check valve clearances first. Check each glow plug to see if it is working. Check ALL fuel lines for air leaks that will cause you to lose the fuel prime at the injectors. An air leak on a return line will cause hard starting. Most times the fuel line looks ok but will leak air into the system.
I have found more times than not on VW, Mercedes and Cummins 5.9 diesels in the Dodge trucks.

I made one for my Powerstroke by stripping a glow plug body and welding it onto a new grease gun hose. Cost $5 for a new clean hose. Changing out the glow plugs is a good time to run a check.
