Caught 5 Reds, 3 were keepers. I released them all back. I have plenty of Redfish in the freezer, I was after trout and the 2 schools of trout I encountered were all undersized. I caught one nice trout further down the island, but he threw the hook as I was putting the net down in the water. Overall, it was a great day out on the water.just happened! Hog Island.

Trout and flounder are my favorites, Reds come in 3rd.Heard redfish are great eating. Know we have quite a few folks in redfish territory here on OTT.
Rare catch from the cold fresh waters of upstate New York...
What kind of trout were you after?
Looks like a great 24 hours between land and sea.
Nice. I've caught flounder on party boats out of NH/Maine coast. Family vacation we took years ago when kids were young.Trout and flounder are my favorites, Reds come in 3rd.
Except that's a big boar, those become yote and buzzard food. I only keep and clean sows, piglets and juvenile boars not much more than 100lbs.Do you process the pork for the freezer? It looks like a good eater size.
Do they become tuff at that point? I would think ground pork or sausage would be a good use for the meat. Not familiar with them here in Wi.Except that's a big boar, those become yote and buzzard food. I only keep and clean sows, piglets and juvenile boars not much more than 100lbs.
It's called boar taint, googly it, it has a foul smell and taste, I just don't mess with the big boars anymore, not worth my time/energy. I have cleaned some in the past, they didn't have the smell, but they did have the foul taste after cooking and it wasn't too pleasant.Do they become tuff at that point? At first I thought there is a whole hog why would anyone be worried about eating the taintā¦so I googled itā¦seems pretty nasty. Do anything with the tusks? It's called boar taint, googly it, it has a foul smell and taste, I just don't mess with the big boars anymore, not worth my time/energy. I'll collect them if the yotes don't run off with heads. The cutter teeth are hollow. At first I thought there is a whole hog why would anyone be worried about eating the taintā¦so I googled itā¦seems pretty nasty. Do anything with the tusks?
Thanks for the information. We buy whole pigs all the time. Never knew about the taint issues with wild pigs ... tasty.... not!I'll collect them if the yotes don't run off with heads. The cutter teeth are hollow.
