Another vote for the Can-am. I've had mine for several trouble-free years now, with over 3000 miles on it. Since you stated one with 4wd "for the hills" I'm assuming you want one that's more trail-oriented than work-oriented. The Kawasaki Mule you mentioned is work oriented, as are the Kubota units. They don't have the articulation, the suspension to compete with a trail-oriented machine. But good luck finding one in your stated price range....like everything else, the price has gone way up in the past 3 years. A current Can-am like mine has gone up by $10,000. And as for those advocating a Jeep instead of a side by side...I own both; I've been a Jeep Wrangler owner most of my life and still own a 2006 Rubicon. Yes, the Jeeps are nice machines. But a 100 mile ride over a rough trail in a Jeep will leave you feel like you've been pounded by a bat. That same ride on a side by side, with the soft independent suspension, is a piece of cake.

My Can-am on the mountain behind my house this past summer:

I have a RTV X1100C. It certainly is slow, but I dont need fast. It is a beast and fairly indestructible. Too much plastic on most of these other brands for real work.

Add another vote for the Can Am. Seats 2 adults and a pup comfortably.

Kinda wish I had a need for one
They are fun. And for me, it was kind of like forks for the loader on the L, I didn’t know how much I needed one until I bought one. You might need one and not know it. 😉

I probably missed it, but what does the OP want a SXS for? Work? Play? Or trips to the local store?

If it's a play or transport vehicle.....

My Polaris RZR Turbo is a boot-scoot Blast.

A friend of mine, (yeah, I have a couple, LOL), bought a Honda Talon. On my recommendation. I bought my Polaris RZR before Honda took the plunge and offered the Talon. IMO, the Talon is probably the best play - SXS ever. Kawasaki is close. Yamaha's stick shift is way cool too. ( IDK if Yamy still makes it).

And even though it's slower than my RZR Turbo, I like the fact that the Honda Talon has an automotive type automatic transmission.

Unlike others here, respectfully, I'm no fan of CVT transmissions. I always carry an extra belt for when that dude comes apart.

If the OP wants a working SXS. I have nothing to offer.

Yeah….CVT/belt-drive transmissions aren’t what I’d want either.

I like my 1100, lots of power and traction, but it is a pain to shift gears, and it has a bunch of rattles in it. As I have been told by several dealers, it is just the way they are.
Having one with heat and a/c is great, I would now not want a open cab rig. (spoiled)

This is what I have been looking for but the asking price for units with 1,000 hours on them is greater than the cost of a new one. Seems that Kubota isn't making as many RTV1100Cs as they make the BX23S. I had a good deal on a 2017 about 2 years or so ago, but the seller sold it in the middle of the night to someone else. He insisted on getting paid in full in cash, and there was no way to get that amount of cash when the banks were closed. It was mid-afternoon of the day that I was able to call the bank and make arrangements to get the cash by 10 AM the next day. I was willing to give him a $4000 deposit to hold it, but he wanted all the money at once. I believe that the reason he backed out on the deal, was that I asked for his proof of ownership, which he said he had with a Certificate of Origin, but I have my doubts. The machine had a Kubota snowblower and a Kubota V 6-way plow and the price was $16000.

Anyone have Roxer side x side? Looks like a mini Jeep. New may be purchased for under $20k? - from what I looked at online recently.

It’s not a side by side if you take a look at the suspension and engine. It’s more like a scaled down CJ-5 that is offroad only.

I don't believe that it was stolen, but it might have been financed and he wanted to keep making the payments and have the cash to do something else with it. I didn't get the feeling that he was crooked or bad in any way. He told me about the machine having a broken shock and that there was 1 small rust hole in each door. I have no reason to question his honesty.

These 2 videos show how well they are as snow machines.

A new diesel unit like that with snow blower, like on the video is $50,000. Just sayin.

I don't know where you got your figures from, but it isn't $50K unless you really like the salesman and want to give him a great payday.
K's website. I built one with all the finery first, and it was $47,000.

I just redid it barebones.. with cab and blower. $42,000.
Add the hydro snow plow, to that, and it takes it to 48,000 on their barebones cab diesel 1100.

Add KTAC, tax. And it's 50K unless you know dealers knocking off the prices massively.
My point was that it's an expensive machine. That's all.

I have an RTV-500 and an RTV-X900. Both are used for serious work, and a little deer hunting. We have really heavy and sticky buckshot mud here. Both machines have nearly 700 hours on them. Made first repair last night. Front left wheel bearing on the RTV-500. My next side by side will be another Kubota.

yes and I believe that is the one without the auto hitch...which is even more. The one above you have to manually mount and dismount.
