my dealer rate is $100/hr, and they say they have 25+ hrs in it. seems quite high
Is that the estimate or invoice after work complete?

Does the dealer not have to give the estimate up front before work started where you are?

10 to 12 hours would have been plenty of time to do what you have listed. The L175 and L225 tractors are very simple units to work on.

Assuming that the person was knowledgeable in what the job required. If he/she (being politically correct) had to read the shop manual in advance, and then keep the manual out and keep referring back to it for guidance, I can see it taking double the time of an experienced mechanic working on the tractor. This is why you should always ask for a written quote for the job and ask if the mechanic/technician (being politically correct again) is experienced with the tasks of the job. Many a new hire is not familiar with and gets his/her experience on the job at the customer's expense.

$2500 labor is a lot…but, depending on how nasty the tractor was when you dropped it off…(or did they also charge time for pickup/drop-off..?)….. You will not gain much by arguing the time sheet on this job…. except a poor relationship for the future…. if you have any future with them. IMO

The horse is out of the shed….but an estimate before authorization would have been prudent. The onus is on you, I’m afraid.
