I wanted one of those at one time, that is, before I decided I wasn't up to the maintenance on a 60 year old tractor anymore. It's a pretty darn advanced piece of machinery and it still is a good looking tractor today. I was 5 years old when they came out with that model. Wow, time flies! Thanks for posting that video.

Good link, Eric. I love watching old videos like that- kudo's to youtube for making it possible.
I grew up on old Ford tractors, and they are still a value today.

I like this, too.

Well ya learn something new every day. I had no idea you could do so much with a Jeep back then. I wonder why they got rid of so many useful functions.

A jeep probably wasn't cost effecient when it came to replacing a tractor. I had a 51 CJ3A. It was an awesome, fun vehicle, but it wasn't geared as low as a tractor (5:38's in the axles, but it had the 3 speed with a marginally reduced transfercase), it didn't have the weight of a tractor, and simply put, it wasn't built as stout as a tractor. I can't imagine it holding up using implements day in and day out. Some of the lighter stuff maybe, but you could even get a backhoe for one- that is a lot of stress on the frame. How about the shot of the Jeep towing that heavy old car? How long would the frame and drivetrain hold up to that? They had the Dana 44 rear, with two piece axles- a weak design.
Given all of that, and what they jeep coupled with the implements cost, it couldn't have been a good value. If it had, more people would have utilized it.

Here's a video I really enjoyed. I wonder how many "takes" were required for the plumber to flip that oil tank into the hole and get the pipe fittings straight up:

That was some luck- the hole wasn't much bigger, so it would have been a bear to try and rotate the tank until the fitting was at the top.

And it's a tractor I'd love to have but dont think it'll suit my needs. And shipping would kill me trying to get it from North Dakota to Richmond Va
That could be a scenic, peaceful drive. I can see the headlines now- "Lurch drives tractor from Dakota to East Coast, goes broke".

REALLY nice 3B!
I loved my 51, but didn't have the money to treat it right, and needed the money out of it. I will forever regret selling it. A real piece of American history, and it had 17,000 miles on it.

Restored or all original?
Well it's restored I'd say. It was a former golf course tractor that spent it's life pulling a gang of mowers. That's the reason for the turf tires. I don't think they even used the PTO at all. We rebuilt the motor and clutch, straightened some tin and shot a new coat of Ford red on it. and put on some new decals. It's mostly for bushhogging and some occasional post holes.
