We’ve searched grocery stores high and low….and apparently mincemeat is no longer sufficiently popular to be carried anymore. Nonsuch brand has become a collectible on ebay and amazon…. Walmart claims to have it..but at $47 per 27 ounce bottle. go figure.

My dad was the only one in the family who loved mincemeat pie. Gramma made it special for him every Holiday Season.

If you Google "mincemeat" you will find that a British business named Robertsons sells it.
It seems to be cheap enough at $6.99 per 411 gram jar.
Shipping could be a killer ( from GB? ) though....I have no idea about that.

Robertsons is what she found….but at only some distant stores. I wonder why it’s becoming so rare?

It must just be your area it's still available everywhere in our area most of us just make it but it can be bought at almost any butcher shop in out area. Weaver's of Wellsville has the best in my opinion closest to homemade tasting I've found. LINK HERE

GeoHorn is in that "new territory" known as Texas.
You are in old world... European... PA.
Big difference between "mincemeat" and tamales!

Had an uncle who liked mincemeat pie and his wife made it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I remember being handed a piece of that treat as a 10 year old and decided right there it wasn't something I'd ask for! My aunt was a good baker, but you have to acquire a taste for some things and that is one think I never did!!!

Just to clarify, by the term “Mincemeat”…. I am intending a pie-filling made of apples, raisins, nuts, occasionally Rum, and spices…. Not the original English baked-pie filled with chopped meat (usually mutton but sometimes wild game), fat, guts, blood-pudding, and Rum.

Better be hungry, they sell in 35# tubs. I've bought "prefabbed" pies there and liked them.

After spending some time in England over 50 years ago, I concluded that minced meat and ground meat was about the same thing...

Just learned something new...mincemeat is not minced meat!

Had to google it to make sure my mind was still intact LOL:

"Mince pies" in England haven't contained meat in more than 50 years. It's a fruit pie that is particularly delicious and a staple at Christmas. Getting the pastry right is crucial and the number one cause of less than ideal mince pies. Get the pastry right along with the right amount of filling and you have an amazing dessert. I love those bloody things with a dusting of icing sugar, and grew up eating them. I moved to the US when I was 24 years old, and other than one Christmas in Australia, I'd spent the majority in England. I've been back for many Christmas' too and always enjoy a mince pie or 20. Don't forget, "Mr. Kipling makes exceedingly good cakes!"

mcmxi, I agree that regardless of filling….a good Crust is a major element of any pie.

My Arkansas ”GrandMaw’s” recipe came to light recently during an attic cleanup of old documents.

The wife agreed to try it…and VOILA! YES! The SECRET: Never substitute fake fat like Crisco or margarine for REAL LARD and BUTTER!

A Flaky and Crisp pie-crust, even on the bottom of fruit and sides of “wet” fillings…such as berries and puddings.

Never beem to England but mincemeat was a staple of butchering time as long as I have been around. The meatless versions are fakes marketed to city people.

Mince pies are typically made with a shortcrust pastry and are about 3" in diameter. Some really fancy ones have frangipane for the lid or top. :ROFLMAO:

I like both and I’ve never lived in a city. The meat type uses venison in my kitchen but the purchased fruits and berries type is great too. I looked and that mince pie filling I’ve used in the past is just not available here in NH either. I sent an inquiry to Smuckers the makers of Ready to Use Classic Original Mincemeat to ask why?
