Restoring a Rusty Air blast Sprayer

I have a small 9 acre Pecan Orchard and recently purchased an old air blast sprayer that works as it should but is covered in surface rust. These implements are not cheap so I chose to purchase one that is used, operable but in need of some care. I plan to take it apart, prep it then cover it in POR- 15, and paint it. Does anyone have experience in using POR-15 on an implement and what is your lessons learned, advice and results. Thanks

I have often used OSPHO (Phosphoric Acid), for same purpose, and it works great.
Usually about $40+ per gallon.

My understanding of POR-15 is that the material has to be very clean and well prepared for the paint to properly prevent any future rust.

There are products (mentioned above is one) that will convert the rust into a solid material that can be painted

In the old car hobby the novices use POR15, but the people who care about their restorations steer clear of it. It will peel off in sheets unless the metal underneath is properly prepared, and it is more of a thick coating than a paint. I would just clean as best as I can and then use a metal etching primer and paint.
