How do I access the switch for repair or removal. I have to use my right foot to push the pto lever and hold lever to start my orange tractor.

Hello @Jack Sprat
Have a look at this.

The switch itself has a long metal "leaf". If you can reach the thing (see below), then you may be able to bend it so it contacts the shift mechanism.

If you have to replace the switch, you will have to remove the metal console to get at it. I have a few pics that might help.

PTO Shifter:
1) Remove the shift knob
2) Remove the rubber boot - if it's really stiff, dowse it with Armorall or AT205 to soften it. Likely it will be stuck to the console.

Metal Console:
1) Remove all of the plastic including the dash
2) Disconnect the clutch and brake pedals
3) Remove steering wheel (or the shafts into the steering unit.
4) Disconnect the shift mechanism
5) Disconnect the wiring harnesses

The idea is to loosen the console so you can move it away from the fuel tank and thus have access to the shifter mechanism.

It's a very heavy component - especially with the pedals attached.

This is a picture from my tractor rebuild project showing the metal console before removal.

If you decide to undertake the teardown, I've been there and can help you

The PTO switch mounts to this plate - it's upside down in this picture, but you can see the "metal Leaf' that actuates the switch

Thanks for the quick reply and pics. I think that PTO safter sensor will get by-passed.

Mine does the same. I like it as a unintended anti theft device 😎
