L3800HST 400 hr service, Trans and Hyd are one correct?

My l3800hst just finally peeking the 400hr service mark. i cant remember and googling providing nothing. i just bought a digital FSM but its annoying it really only shows the gear drive not the HST. i feel stupid. im like 99% sure the trans and hyd are one unit but why is there a seperate HST filter then? both filters are filtering the same oil?

Correct one "holding" tank, Two filters... and that's all I can add, waiting to hear from others.

My guess, power steering pump vs. the rest of hydraulics pump... So my tractor data is:
Pump flow: 6.8 gpm
Steering flow: 4.3 gpm

Total flow: 11.1 gpm

Hydraulic filter is a course filter for the pump inlet. Early tractors had a cleanable screen. The HST is a fine polishing filter. Removing small particles. Usually more expensive and called a trans filter.

thanks for quick replys. might aswell ask the age old question that will get shot down, has anyone run an super udt2 equivalent? or any universal tractor fluid? its just easier to have on hand when needed.. these tractors are 10+ years old at this point. IMO hyd oil is hyd oil.....

It is an AGE OLD question - the real underlying question is WHY would you put ANYTHING in there that is labeled UNIVERSAL in an HST tractor???? The cost of S-UDT2 is expensive, no doubt - but for the 200-400 hours it stays in the tractor, it is cheap daily insurance not to screw up something, whereas a "universal" oil may or may not mess up the HST and there is the rub - that replacement or rebuild is gonna cost MORE than the tractor is worth to fix!

And Hydraulic oil and Hydraulic oil may look the same and may act the same is CERTAIN situations ....... But in a Kubota HST I would not poke the bear!!! If in a wood splitter I would poke the bear and not worry!

I can not afford to buy a new tractor and I don't want to repair this one... I bite the bullet and buy Kubota's Super UTD2. Bought it on sale a year or more ago... waiting for the 1000 hour change.
