Hello to all,

I have just purchased a diesel B7100 HST 4WD with 973 hours on it. The tractor was always under a roof and it was maintained very well. It came with a belly mower, small grader blade and a 3 pt hitch finishing mower.

I have owned my farm for 25 years and have several tractors and many attachments so I am familiar with machinery maintenance both diesel and gas.

I was wondering if there is anything in particular to know about this model and what I should be aware of to get the most out of my tractor.

Every machine has its idiosyncrasies so I was just wondering what to to be on the look out for.

Thanks for the feedback in advance, I have enjoyed reading lots of info about the orange machines.

Welcome aboard! You have great taste in tractors, and names also!:D
My B7100 (1979, 1200+hrs. gear, 4wd) had some water in the steering box, (no detectable damage, phew!) but yours should be OK if it was not left out in the weather. Mine needed the valves adjusted, and ran noticeably better & quieter after adjusting. As it has a thermo siphon cooling system, (no water pump) cleanliness of the coolant & radiator fins is a little more critical. B7100s seem to like lots of glow plug heat on cold starts, 20-30 seconds above 35-40 degrees, and 60 seconds below that. My compression release cable was free, but I've seen 3 others with that cable seized.
That's all that comes to mind, I'm sure someone else will jump in here.

I think Lil Foot went over about everything. My 7100 had the decompression cable removed when we bought it. I used mine for 15 yrs and when I traded it in it had over 6,000 hrs on it. I put 3 sets of tires on it and other regular service spent less than $100 on repairs. Great little tractor.

Good info guys thanks. I blew out the radiator fins today and the engine compartment but neither was really dirty then greased all fittings and lubed various other moving parts.

Does anyone use synthetic oil in their tractor engine if so what brand ?

I'm thinking Rotella T6 diesel oil at this point, available at my local Wally-World.

At risk of starting another oil war but I use Amsoil synthetic lubricants in everything I own and have for about 20 yrs now. I don't know how far you are from Richmond but they have a distribution center there. The up side to that would be another reason to stay out of wally.

Orange-U-Nice, I live across the mountain from you, south of Waynesboro. I have a friend in Stanardsville who just bought himself a B7100. Mervin Glick, if you know him.
I use Rotella T6 in my B7100. If you do chose to use Amsoil, there is also a dealer in Fishersville, near Augusta Medical Center. That might be a little closer than Richmond.
The B7100 is a fine tractor, and capable of more work than you would expect.

Thanks for the information, I will give MG a call I know where he is.

We have an Amsoil dealer here in town.
