Is there anything I should be aware of when attempting to remove the gearbox from the main drive spindle? So far it has me baffled and yes, I do have the parts list manual.

There is nothing special when removing the gearbox. Something is probably rust-welded in place. A little heat and a hammer should do the trick.

Is it a single shaft from gearbox to blade, or is it a double shaft one for the blade, one for the gearbox? Parts diagram is a bit iffy on their description. First time for me and I certainly dont want cause unnecessary damage.

Of all the boxes I’ve dealt with, they are a single shaft. Remove blade and cup, that will expose a snap ring. Remove the bolts holding box to deck and it should lift off.

Still full of questions here: Is the snap ring at the bottom of the shaft where the blade attaches? I have removed the one at the top of the gearbox under the access cup and the gearbox doesn't want to move. Apologies for my ignorance.

Attached is a page from the service manual. It's not for your specific model, however, I used it to rebuild my gearbox and should be very similar for all the "H" gearboxes.

This isn’t your exact box, but I’m betting it’s similar. Snap ring should be under the cup on bottom of deck. Red line. Once that is off, belt removed and 4 bolts holding box to deck, the box should lift off. The snap ring you removed holds the gear on the shaft inside the box.

No problem. Take them with a grain of salt, as it isn’t your exact box. But at least now you have some idea of how it comes apart.
Easiest disassembly of the entire deck, once you know how😁 Thanks to you and all who replied, your assistance is appreciated👍
