Since my house has a gravel driveway, my wife originally planned to build an asphalt driveway at a high cost.
I successfully convinced my wife to use the money from the asphalt driveway to buy a tractor for annual maintenance of the gravel driveway.

I just started studying 3025E and L2501, and then L2502. After 2 months of studying in this forum, I gained a lot. After waiting for another 1 month, my Kubota L2502 finally arrived home. This is my first diesel equipment. . Feel the charm of diesel engine for the first time.

So far, I have been running a test run for one day. What I don’t understand is that there is a lot of smoke during cold start. It looks like light blue smoke. After about 1 minute, it becomes less obvious. If it is a gasoline engine, the blue smoke means burning oil. . is not normal, for a diesel engine, is this normal?

I hope others add their observations but that is not normal when compared to my L2501 purchased new fall of 2019. When starting cold, say temps in the 40’s or 50’s i run my glow plugs for about 10 seconds. I get maybe 10 seconds of white smoke , and the tractors runs with a normal idle in About that same. A bit longer when temps are colder, teens to say 30 degrees.

Use it and check later. I think probably a little break in happening.

Or, call the dealer.

I test drove a L2502 this week and it started and smoked very close to what you have. I have a L2501 and it starts and runs better cold than the L2502 did, I don't know what they did different on the new model. My 2501 will start fine without the glowplugs unless very cold out.

A bit more revs shortly after starting may clean that up a bit. It might be over fuelling a bit at idle, but I'd guess it's just cold. My B2601 smokes a bit on start, it clears after a few seconds. Smokes much less if I glow first, if it cranks a few times before starting then it blows smoke until that fuel clears.

I agree with @jimh406.

It's a brand new tractor and engine. Use it a bit and don"t sweat the small stuff on a brand new unit. It's a new unit.

Although...
It's sounds it's missing on a cylinder at initial start up, but don't fret at all at this point.

Break it in. It's probably assembly lube working it's way through and a new Kubota getting to know it's owner. And vice versa.

Use it. Break it in.

Congratulations! Nice capable machine!

Congrats on the new machine!!!!

Seems a wee bit more than my 2501, but a couple of things

1. How cold was it out?

2. I tend to do a 10-11 count with my glow plug, yours was about 7'ish.

3. I notice a lot less smoke when I run my block heater for about 30-45 minutes prior to cold starting.

Edit: I always unplug my block heater, before starting.....

Not absolutely sure, buy I seem to remember my manual saying to have the throttle slightly elevated at start up. Not at idle. Mine only gives one quick belch of smoke.

Granted, different machines.

Congrats on successfully convincing your wife on the smart purchase! Now you can do her a favor and go asphalt millings for the driveway and DIY 😁

Thanks for the reply, the temperature at that time was 40, and there was no obvious difference whether I used a glow plug or not.

Yes, I found out they are two different engines

I would think the newer model should burn even cleaner. It was around 40 when I tested the L2502 and I was very surprised how much it missed and smoked on start up. I have't been able to find any specs on the L2502 engine.

Thanks, I will try your method today, increase the RPM, use it lightly to clear some bushes.

Yes, I will use it lightly for a few days and gather more information to give to the dealer

Thanks for the reply, is your 2501 smoke white or blue?

The temperature at that time was 40,

You observed it very carefully, it was indeed 7 seconds.

Haha, it can be said to be a smart and well-intentioned scam...

What is the black material you are laying on the gravel?

I just googled Asphalt millings, and gained new knowledge today.
The gravel is my existing driveway. I connected two sections of it with the asphalt millings to make a loop. Backing 65' of truck and camper up at night was a PITA so I made a loop. The base layer is 3-4" recycled concrete chunks about 6" deep. Then I put 3" of millings down. Will probably add another layer next summer after the ground does its thing over winter and 22000 pounds of truck and trailer drive over it more.
This is the base.
