Hello, my first question. My tractor was stolen last week, long story short I found it. The thief removed the ignition at the 4 pin connection. I have ordered a new one picking up tomorrow. My question is about the starter. There is a connector on the solenoid that the thief used to jump and turn over the engine. Is there a wire from somewhere that is supposed to be on that connector. I can't find a wire that would go there.

I am sorry that happened and you are dealing with that. I am not of much help on this topic, but I hope you have a backho. 😉

Best to get a copy of the Work Shop Manual. Assuming that you have insurance on the tractor, why not let the Kubota dealer fix it? Even if you didn't have a specific policy on the tractor, your homeowner's insurance company should pay for the repair.

Pictures would be nice, but the solenoid should/possibly have 3 studs. The 2 bigger ones are, one from the solenoid to the starter motor and the other from the solenoid to the battery. The smaller stud controls the solenoid/starter, this will only have power when then key is in the start position. Here is a link for a WSM for your tractor. https://www.kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/index.php?dir=Tractor Owners Manuals/

I didn’t see any wiring diagrams on that Kubota book but didn’t look that closely either.

There is a wire from the key through the safety switches to the blade terminal on the starter solenoid. It has been noted as a black wire with a white stripe on several different tractor models so that may be what yours is also.

I may be wrong, but I believe that "wire" may or may not go to a solenoid, that SOME models used and some did not

EDIT - Russell beat me to it!;)

Surprised the thief didn't just use a 'Key', would have been much easier. Keys for most model lines and years of production are typically all the same.

So how did you recover the tractor?
Posted on Facebook and got a a sighting. Found the tracks and followed through the desert for about 4 miles on foot. Found my tractor buried in a bunch of mesquite trees.

There is only 2 connection on that starter.
The large lug is battery and power feed to the rest of the tractor (RED mark and red wire)
Small lug or terminal is the solenoid connection (Blue mark and Black wire with white stripe)

Just wondering, was the theft reported to the local authorities, and was the recovery also reported? If it was, then it will be covered under your homeowner's policy. If not, then why?

Yes reported stolen and recovered. No homeowners, in a rental while developing property to move to.

Following the wofman's diagram, it may be possible to start the tractor if the battery is good.

BUT some tractors, not sure about yours, require voltage from the ignition switch to energize a fuel cutoff solenoid in order to run.

Just something to keep in mind if it doesn't start when you try. You may be able to determine this beforehand, as I noticed that someone above posted a link to get the workshop manual on line.

Edit: of course if you have a new replacement ignition switch, this point is moot...

You can still have a policy on it while renting. I asked my insurance agent about a policy for our zero turn which is currently being stored and used at my son's house, as well as my 16ft landscape trailer.

Rider policy costs about $20 a month for both the trailer and zero turn mower. And covers replacement cost of both.
