gee Dan there's no way I'd be without a fridge for 14 hours or 14 days let alone 14 MONTHS. Must be a very, very special fridge ??
Interesting 'roadtrip math' . 4hrs there, 4 hrs back is 8 hrs not 2 days, though I suspect you have other stops along the way......
I don't do and never did do 8 hour drives in a day. If I wanted those sorts of drives I would have become a trucker.

I am not without a fridge. The old one is working but it's 33 years old and getting very shabby.

You might say Subzero is special. They certainly think so - with tax, delivery, and installation the ticket on this one is $14k USD.

YIKES , I knew they were pricey but.... $19,000 CDN for a fridge !!!! That is just obscene, unless it comes with a full lifetime no questions asked warranty.
I bought my BX23S , 5 years ago for not that much more...yeesh !

You have me really laughing at that. In our old house (built in 1988) we had Subzero separates.
About 2019 my wife wanted to get SS faces for them in lieu of the white ones. The best price I could find was over $500 ea PLUS shipping, that was over $400 for the pair. At the same time the freezer was crapping out and the repair guy recommended replacing the unit as it was going to be $1000's to fix (he didn't sell them).

So I went out and bought a 'common' freezer that was physically smaller and was going to require a cabinet guy. The same day it was delivered I saw an aution on Ebay for the equivalent separates that we had but they were only 5 years old and had SS trim.

I got them both. $450 for 1 (I was the only bidder) and $456 for the other. They were in NJ, a 2 hour ride away.

I sold the new one on Craigslist, still in the box.

2019 was a magic year. I started thinking about replacing this one a year or two before that. At that point I could have bought it from AJ Madison (NJ) and had it delivered tax and shipping free.

Subzero acquired Wolf in 2000 and decided they were truly special. They adopted Wolf's restrictive parts, service. and sales area policies. I could no longer buy parts from RepairClinic and AJ Madison was not allowed to ship outside NJ. You snooze you lose.

Kitchen is scheduled for a compoete overhaul so as soon as I get the fridge (they are saying delivery on 11/22) I will order the replacement for the 34 year old Garland Range. It is NOT going to be Wolf. I am going with American Range from AJM. Its higher performance, similar features, far easier to source, and considerably less $$$$.

In 2000, we did a 'complete overhaul' of the kitchen, blew it 100% out, new LEVEL floor joists was the start(off 4" in 10'), 21 breakers in the subpanel, then insulate, drywall, 2 new windows,2 skylights and of course all new appliances. Fridge is an LG 'french door' model. had to replace the ice maker unit as ONE gear got chewed when cubes got jammed. That was $100 cheaper from 3rd party than LG dealer !!! Even with new gas cooktop, wall oven, DW, wine fridge(she HAD to have that...),pros for drywalling + paint , total was just under 20K so now you know why I'm gasping that a friggin fridge costs 19K !! That LG fridge was just over $1K, Dec 23rd 2000, $75 for delivery(wife said not to) but boy that was best coins I spent. They removed 3 doors, dissed the fridge just to get it INTO the house on day before Christmas (think snow and ice..windy and cold...)

I am well aware of the cost of appliances at both ends of the spectrum. A $1000 refrigerator is now an economy model - $3k is about average for mid- level.

High end comnercial appliances desugned and certified for residential use are very expensive. The new commercial 6 burner American Range (LP gas) that will be coming is a biscuit short of $8k and that is after a $1500 rebate. The new commercial hood is anotjer $3k. Pretty sure they will all outlast me.

As pricey as that is you can easily spend significantly more. This 48" 4 burner Wolf with commercial hot top and double ovens is $19K. That same configuration in a true commercial kitchen appliance would be about $7-$8k.

curious.... when you said 'rebate', do you get the TAXES back on the rebate amount ?
Up here, north of the 49th, the guv KEEPS the 13% paid on rebates.

In this case the mfg rebate is applied to sales price before sales taxes are calculated. Mail in rebates do not get you a refund of sales tax paid.

ahhh.... the price of inflation.

Today at the local gas station $2.50C for a chocolate bar.

I remember penny candy at the local corner store. Full blown chocolate bars for 5 cents Cdn.

Inflation sucks when we be buying.... good news all those assets we acquired over the years (houses/land/equipment) going up as well. Glad my consuming years are mostly over.

I’ll bet that when that candy was a penny, your wages were tiny also.

Some companies are insane. I have been waiting 14 months for a replacement for my builtin Sub Zero refrigerator. I am on the verge of canceling and demanding a refund of my depisit. I could drive 4 hours to NJ, pick it up frim a stocking distributor,, and have it back home in two days for less than the local distributor is asking.
14 months? Oh, your nerves must be made of steel. I would have requested a refund after 2 months of waiting, tops. no matter the reason of the delay.
