Yeah, the TLBs are not just a tractor they threw a backhoe on.

My only regret in buying my L47 was not spending the additional $10k (at the time) and getting the M62.
The additional reach would be nice.
Several years ago I had a Ford 655a which was overkill for my use.

I just convinced my friend to buy the M62.
I have a 2006 L48 TLB, and at my age, that is overkill.
My friend was considering both the B26, and the L47.
I convinced him that the M62 (14' dig) was the way to go.

He is just about to build his waterfront mega retirement home.
The M62 should be just perfect for his needs.

A new M62 is now over $93K !
I found him a 2021 M62 (not rental) with 295 hours, for $63,500.
He bought it!

I was able to go look at the little B21 that's going to auction. 1360 hr. had some difficulty with getting the neutral on the hst to start it. Starts right up, runs good, everything works. Has the stop solenoid unplugged and a lawn mower pull cord rigged up to shut it off (LOL). Can't find any leaks but theres some hard/cracked hoses throughout. Hydraulics seem strong it did all the normal exercises. Front wheel drive works, tires are worn about half tread in front, rears are pretty good. Seat is good and flips around like it should.

A couple areas of concern - it looks like the flasher switch is just gone theres a hole there. There is a switch installed on the cluster that runs an electric pusher fan from the front of the radiator. Radiator looked fine and fluids all looked fine but the pusher fan makes me think it runs hot or has had overheating problems.

The loader was tight and they have the 3pt parts with it. The backhoe main masts or arms or whatever were pretty tight.

The bucket pins were loose and had quite a bit of play. I don't know much about backhoes but should those pins also be pretty tight with not much/any slop?

I wasn't able to really to see if there's blow-by since the vent tube on this one feeds back to the intake. I was not able to really spend as much time as I wanted and felt rushed by the auction company dude, so I couldn't really check for leak-down on the hydraulics or put any load on the unit, dig anything or even push up against an immovable force.

I might be able to look at it but I don't think I will be able to run it again and will probably only be able to see whatever they demonstrate right before the sale.

Does the bucket play tend to be pins or the boom arm? If it's not that big of a deal what I have pointed out I will bid on it with a pretty low limit in mind. If it sounds like a bucket of problems, I would like to keep looking and carry on.

I appreciate your opinions or advice on what to look out for/check for on this. Particularly anyone experienced with the B21. My wife saw it and thinks I should get something bigger and in better shape
She loves me.

Fried, the sad part is, according to .Gov's "inflation calculator", if you multiply 93,000 times .03 that same tractor will be $175,000 in 5 years, which will make 93K seem like the "good ole days".

My old TI-89 calculator must need a "Formal De-programming"........

sounds like that B21 has had a ROUGH 1,000 hrs of being abused. I've got over 1100hrs on my 5 year old BX23S and ALL the pins and 'joints' are firm(no slop..) That added cooling fan is a concern.maybe it's just very,very dusty where it works ??
sadly it'll sell for more than it should..the nature of auctions these days( check the 'buyer's premium' and loading fees !!!! ) IF you do go to the auction, decide on a MAX amount( includes 'fees'),then work backwards for YOUR 'selling' price. For me, a $6K tractor 'sold' will cost me close to $10K 'out the door'

bottom line... listen to your 'better half'

Well...... not quite THAT good but......., my 261 hour (pre DPF) 2006 L48 TLB, that I bought 4 years ago, is conservatively worth $12K more than I paid for it.

L45 is the final decision. More lift and features than L35, still light enough to tow without needing a bigger rig (hopefully). My calculations are that if I go on a diet I can tow this locally with my half ton and 10k trailer, but it will probably never leave my property unless someone else is providing the transport.

If you have any live stumps, you might want to consider a root ripper.
Just a huge single tooth.
Works great, minimizes mess!

Try Rhinox, I had very good luck with them. My BT 1000 bh equated to a KX040 excavator bucket, assuming you have the quick attach.

Root rippers are not cheap.
I wanted deepest ripper available.
28"......OXthumbs.com, Carrollton, GA.
Others are 25" or less!

I agree about just buying another machine. Easier, plus you will find lots of uses for both machines at the same time on the same job.

Agreed on the huge benefit of having two tractors! I have the BH77 on my B2650, and it is a PITA to take on an off, so it hardly gets used. I've recently added a B2601 which I can use for all the 3pt implements, and just leave the backhoe on the B2650 all the time.

If you have the KX quick attach option you have many options including used. I like USA attachments.
If you have pin on or other Kubota the dealer or smaller used market.
