Sweet memories. I had a necker's knob on the Jeep right up to the time I was off road and hit a big rock. The knob damn near broke my hand when it came around. The girlfriend (soon to be wife) thought it was funny as hell !
In my teens, long time ago, worked for sisters husband's roofing company. 77 ford f350 Mason dump with manual steering. Only time steering was easy was when it was overloaded and some weight was off the front axle.

Did you ever try to parallel-park a manual transmission auto which also had non-power-steering..?

😥

That ‘55 Chebby also had manual steering and brakes…and, depending on options, standard was a Six-Volt 20-Amp generator with vibrating-points regulator.
Yup!
My 1st car was a 1934 Ford with suicide doors.
Just a heater.
No power anything!

You also learn real quick to get the car/truck/tractor rolling before cranking on the wheel…something not taught nor learned anymore.

Hate the sound of a parked car scrubbing tires as the driver cranks on the wheel.😖

Used that skill today.

And folks wonder why their steering components don't last for sh@t. Power steering might make the steering wheel easier to turn, but it doesn't help the tie rods, ball joints, rack & pinion.

Currently in the middle of a front end rebuild on 55 coronet 8cyl. It actually steered very easily for a big heavy car with manual steering. Hopefully will be even better with all new steering and suspension. Just waiting on center link to be returned, had to see out to be remand as that are not available anywhere. Did find brand new coil springs for him but had to fabricate new sway bar brackets and use universal bushings as they aren't available either.

I think it fits here:

This morning was at the store. Total was $42.65.

Gave the young fellow a $50 bill and 3- $1 bills.

“Ummm….sir you realize it’s $42 and you gave me $53???”

I just said trust me…..😉😉

Back inthe day I had a 57 Ford 2 door hard top, and you needed arms like Arnold to turn the wheel when you were trying to park it

Its Mind boggling. How easy we try and make it, and it gets over complicated in the cashiers mind

The young fellow was nice enough - - looked at me like I was the smartest guy ever and said "I see what you did there...."

He said my math was much quicker than his.

I was a bar keep before the cash registers calculated change due....that sticks with you.
