After buying and operating a M7040 for over 3000 hours, I decided to add a L4740 for a second tractor. I need some experienced 4740 owners to give me a quick rundown in the 3 pt hitch differences beyond just Cat ll and Cat l.
I just tried to hook up my 6ft disk but the top link seems way short on the 4740

The implement is always a factor. I have two top links, both different lengths. It just depends on the implement, which one I use.

Congratulations on the new to you machine. You’ve got a little one now (which is larger than my big one). I like those 40 series Grand Ls.

I've got a 40 series. I found I needed longer top link and PTO shafts going to that from my old tractors (Cat II JD 3020 and Cat I Ford 4000 both used the same links/shafts but the Kubota needed more. As above, I've got a few top links around w/ cryptic markings on them telling me which implement they go with. One day I may even grab the correct one on the first try.
