Check out Redpower Magazine’s website. They run a forum that has a lot of information about Internationals. Steiner is a big source for parts. Most of them are made in some 3rd world country and quality is so so. Most sellers for parts for old tractors seem to all get them from the same 3rd world sources. Some do carry better quality than others. I bought a few things for my Farmall H and M and you definitely can tell that they are not OEM.

Is the tractor 12v or 6v?

I converted it to 12v back in the 80’s but it will be restored back to the original 6v positive ground. Naturally all the original parts that I saved for years got tossed.

Thought of you yesterday when I was scrounging for the threaded rod for the puller. It was next to the length of polycarbonate rod you gave me. Actually used a bit of it on a project.

Any use of that 52100 yet?

Your feedback is much appreciated! You’re confirming my suspicion about the parts. Do you remember which supplier had the better parts?

This much I have learned so far: Steiners website sucks compared to yesterdaytractors. I will start ordering some parts this upcoming week.

Any use of that 52100 yet?

I used a couple inches for a bushing for my excavator project, and will probably use some more for additional bushings. That 52100 machines nicely.

Excellent use for that steel! I used a bit of it last year and for the life of me, I can’t remember how it machined. Glad to hear you give it your blessing.

Try these two. When I did my super a the engine kit came from the restoration supply I was very happy with that. The oem is very good for other aftermarket pieces. They bought a lot of original international dies that they use to make their stuff. Also very good with gauges, exact oem replacements.

Just checked sites. Apparently they are both out of business now.
However the brillman company does still exist. Great source electric for your tractor including complete wiring harness.

Steiner's is a much bigger operation than YT. YT has been acquired by All States AG Parts aka Tractor Parts ASAP. I use both and never had any issues wirh Steiners website. You want to see a website that really sucks try the YT forums....

Bead blasted and ground the valves today. They cleaned up pretty nice. The worst wear on the stems was a little over .001". Most of them were about a half a thousandth so I think I'm OK there. I am planning on replacing/relining the guides.

Next up will be resurfacing the tappets.

I know some people will Dremel the rocker surfaces to clean them up but I am thinking about dressing a wheel to the correct radius and cleaning them up on the surface grinder. Am I overthinking this?

Not if you have the grinder and dresser. What geometry is used on the tappets?

TBD. I have some radius gauges that I hope will work.

Ground the bottom of the tappets. All cleaned up at about .002"

Then on to the surface plate with some 600 grit to polish them up a bit. I use glass cleaner for lubricant.

Today's project is replace the wrist pin bushings and get them ready for honing. I pressed the old ones out and pressed new ones in. The new ones were about .014" undersize after installation so I made a set up in the mill to bore them out perpendicular with the crankshaft and leave about .005" for honing. I machined out a piece of round stock on the lathe to plus .001" of the rod crank pin journal and mounted this on the mill bed. Then I indicated it in to within a tenth.

Then I torqued the rod to the fixture and then used gauge blocks and feeler gauges to shim the wrist pin end to take out any deflection from the boring head tool pressure.

Set up the boring head with a new high speed steel boring bar because the light cut would not agree with a carbide bar.

All came out well and made for a fun day! Just waiting on some tooling for my antique Sunnen hone to finish these up.

That’s the risk I take when posting. I’ve been collecting machines and tools since I was in my mid twenties and I’m in my mid sixties now. That shop is my life. Thank God I have a wife that understands what makes me happy!
