I have a substantial leak coming from one of the bolt joints of my loader front control valve. I believe it is the lower o-ring.

I removed the air intake screen and plastic valve cover under the battery and I can completely loosen the bolt.

There is not much room to maneuver so it was very difficult, I could only turn it a little at a time and had to keep turning the wrench over.

But I can't get the bolt out to change the o-rings because the bottom of the battery tray is in the way.

Is there a way to replace the o-ring without taking half the tractor apart as the Workshop Manual recommends?

I'm the original owner since 2007, about 600 hours and always well maintained.

The one leaking is highlighted in the diagram below.

Any tips, tricks or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

If the bolt is loose tighten it. If not put two new sealing washers on it. They are not really orings - they are probably solid metal (copper, brass, aluminum) crush washers. You can buy replacements that are steel with an elastomeric insert that improves sealing.

The problem is that I don't have enough room to lift the bolt out to replace the o-rings. The battery tray is right above the valve.

Can you disconnect the far end and move it out enough to get the bolt out, replace the seals and put back in place?

Or just loosen the battery tray bolts enough to get the bolt out?

I think I have to remove the FEL to try this, we've had rain all weekend and I don't have enough room to remove it under cover and work on it too.

The battery actually sits on what Kubota calls the "center pillar" which is part of the framing for the dash area and would be just as hard if not harder to remove.

I remember reading a forum discussion years ago about it being a bad design, folks thought Kubota could have left a large enough cut out under the battery to allow for these o-rings to be changed. I think one person even said they cut it out themselves.

The bolt definitely wasn't loose, it took a bit of strength to loosen it.

The o-rings go on the bolt, I don't think there is enough room to put anything larger than the intended o-rings on it. Even if there was, I would still have to remove the bolt.

When I found the leak, part of me thought if I'm going to go through the whole WSM procedure I should change all the o-rings in the control valve and part of me thought if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Thoughts??

Don't invite more troubles and expense. If it ain't broke don't fix it till it is.

No place to change the o rings on my bx24

For me with a angle grinder y remove the plates under the battery
leaving half a inch each side to recieve after a small piece of plywood to hold the battery

Works well.
