You could either look it up online, or post the make and model number, and one of your dear friends here will look it up for you (pm the info to me, so that I can beat Eric M. to the punch. He's pretty fast).

I don't think they make lead pellets anymore. You should be fine with just BB's. I know when I had mine as a kid it would shoot either BB's or pellets. Pellets had to be hand loaded one at a time unlike BB's you could bulk load.

That wasn't planned!
I would sure hope that it takes BB's- cheaper and faster.

most .177 pellet guns have rifled barrel, and can't shot B.B.'s, so if in doubt I'd stick with the pellets.
And yes, they still sell the lead pellets, but they do recommend that you wash your hands after handling them.
A heads up to check the velocity ( f.p.s. ) of the one you purchased because they make some real high powered ones these days, and they aren't toys.

I have a Red Ryder Range model that the kids got me years ago for Christmas, but I haven't shot my eye out yet.

Just a little note:
Daisy shatter burst targets are great. I found them at tractor supply with 4 plastic stands. The targets themselves can get expensive. But Ritz crackers fit the holders just fine and are also completely biodegradeable.

They make a great reactive target where it can be seen if it is hit.
