18” at the near end….14-1/2’ long… Live Oak. Heavy…. would “bounce” the rear tires of my M4700DT off the ground as we moved along…. I moved Two of them this size off the same tree. BOTH were only ”branches” that blew off the TRUNK of the tree in a storm:

One rear wheel lifting, is my max lift warning. I then either recenter the load, or just let the load slid along on the ground, and leave the wheel a inch or two in the air.

Thanks for all your reply’s.. ended up just using the forks as a “workstation” or “cut deck” for the 6”-under trees and just cut the bigger guys in place… ended up finding one of the larger trunks at the bottom of the pile.. 16” diameter and 14” long.. weighed in at 70lbs.. just shows how dense Oak trees are.

Gave the ole princess auto Remington 14” chainsaw a workout lol View attachment 110779
Good deal you got it figured out.

So that log, it was 16 inches in diameter, 14 feet long and weight 700 pounds? Just checking as there appears to be a couple typos. My math says that’s about 36 pounds per cubic foot (pcf). I think that’s probably in the lighter end of the oak spectrum for those dimensions, but quite possible.

No I just cut a 14” piece and weighed it.. it’s probably 15’ long so it’d be around 850-1,000lbs

Got it. So about 43 pcf. That’s a more typical value.
