So it’s been a journey on a tractor I bought from the previous owner of the house (2000something BX2230). I tried to grease all of the fittings on my tractor and everyone worked but the front two that operate the LA211 bucket. I tried to take the grease fittings off and they sheared off. I was able to get them out and was so proud of myself until I tried to install them again and regrease them. No dice. It’s clogged somewhere.

I then went to take the pins out and the cotter pins are missing which isn’t a great start. I start hammering on the inside of the pin to knock it out and doesnt budge. Anyone know how to get the two outer pins out so I can clear up the grease channel?

Stop beating on the pins, that will swell them to where they will never come out. With zerk removed squirt Liquid Wrench or penitrating oil in hole, leave it to soak and return to refill. Replace zerk and attempt to grease with gun. Try wiggling pin with pliers. Once pin moves just keep soaking, wiggling and greasing until you know grease has reached all parts of pin. Once pin is taking grease I wouldn't try very hard to get pin out, just keep it greased and use loader.

So it’s the pin that is the pivot point for the bucket to swivel on.

That’s a good point on hitting it. I didn’t think about it that way. I’ll try to throw some PB wrench on there and get it lubed up. Is there a certain position the bucket or arm has to be in order to take grease?

There have been plenty debates on which is best so I usually buy what's on sale to use where I don't want to make a mess but 90% of penitrate I use comes from a "catch-all" jug in the shop. When WD40 and other spray lubes run out of pressure with liquid left in can I poke a hole and pour it in a one gallon jug to be transferred to quart bottle with squirt nozzle. I supplement contents with diesel, atf and acetone. I wouldn't say it works better than branded stuff but it works and I always have plenty to spare when something needs help.

Moving the bucket might speed things up but it isn't neccessary to position so so while greasing. I failed to ask if zerk is on end of pin or in housing. If zerk is on end of pin insert a drill bit and twist by hand to clear out hardened grease.

Honestly, when I took out the zerk it looks like I can see the pin behind which is perpendicular to the zerk fitting. So it looks clear.

Not having dried grease in cavity makes it easier for penetrating oil to reach surfaces but the absence of grease might indicate the pin wasn't greased when installed or since. The 64k question is why wasn't cavity filled when you recently attempted to grease it????????? 🤔

I get the task of repairing this problem a couple of times a year on average, usually on BXs and Bs.

The previous owner did not grease the 2 lower pins enough. They are in the dirt and snow when operating which with the lack of grease has allowed them to rust, seizing them into the loader arms. The reason your cotter pins are missing is with the pins seized and curling the bucket, the pin could not pivot in the loader arm. Instead, the bucket pivoted on the pin shearing the cotter pins.

You can try soaking the pins for a few days to soften the rust so you can drive them out. The pins will have to be removed to clean the bores in the loader arm.

You probably will need new pins as they are cross-drilled for the cotter pin on one end and drilled down the center for greasing on the other. They most likely will not survive what you are going to do to them.
