I hadn't seen one of these in person yet..phone down..seat belt on!!....driving a big truck..that's a $2,750 for Truckers & $11,000 for Carriers..(if caught holding that cell phone) expensive ticket, and no job afterwards!
They pulling passenger cars & trucks as well!!

Had a tanker truck on our Farm to Market road (yesterday) go COMPLETELY into my lane causing me to brake hard and head for the shoulder. I could plainly see the driver on his damn phone just before he jerked the rig back into his lane....!


Distracted driving has become a huge problem.

I saw an 18wheeler last week driving full speed on the shoulder for quite a ways (coming towards me; but opposite side of the road; whew!)

After a bit, I saw him (finally) look up....and he had that holy fahc expression on his face and he wasn't long getting back on the pavement.

If you're driving any vehicle on a roadway of any kind, you shouldn't be looking at your cell phone.(imo)

It’s illegal in Illinois to operate your phone in a vehicle. That should be enough to stop people from doing it, right?

All kidding aside, as a person with a CDL and motorcycle endorsement. I can attest that distracted driving is a huge issue.

Although, I’m not a big fan of the nanny state I hope it helps to save lives by keeping people off their cell phones.

I abhor using the phone whilst driving.......and I think it should be illegal....it's 100% total bullsh!t and dangerous..




However this type of oversight is troubling to me.

"The Man" has too much control already.

It seems like just a "round about" way to tax/spy on people.

Why not make all phones unable to call or text, once a speed of 5 mph is detected?

When you see that crap, try to get the company name on the door and number if there is one. Call that company to complain. It works. Being a X truck driver, know of some drivers getting called on the carpet for crap like this. If no number on the truck, most trailers have a number.

And where does the nanny oversight stop? Can't use a GPS, look at a map, eat a burrito, take a sip of your coffee, change the station on your radio, light a smoke?

I like to ride my "bike" (ok, I'll admit, it's a scooter!) around town and such. Small town. I watch everything closely. If I see 10 cars, 11 of them are holding the phone to their ear. or using it as "speaker phone". What I don't understand is when you see a "newer" car, driver yacking on the phone....I mean...these things have bluetooth so you can put the stupid thing down and drive.

people get aggravated at me for not answering the phone at times but it's because I'm usually driving when they call or text. So be it, get mad. They'll get over it.

There is a proper balance btwn doing things while driving. Eating a burrito, talking hands free on the phone, etc... Is way different than texting or watching videos on the road.

It's common sense. Or not so common sense in today's world. And that's a problem.

Government cameras isn't a solution. It's an overbearing - out of control tyranny waiting to happen.

In my opinion, the government should build roads, hiways, infrastructure. Provide safety to the nations citizens with a strong military, and thru local police. Take care of veterans and the old who can't. And pretty much stfu and stay out of everything else.

What next, ban police from carrying guns, using radar, and driving fast vehicles?

These cameras don't bother me because I choose to NOT use my phone while driving. I'm too busy avoiding collisions from dumbasses crossing double lines into oncoming traffic, tailgating, and weaving in the lanes because they are clueless, incompetent and have a false sense of self importance.

I'm all for the police. 100 percent. I worked with those heroes for 25 years. Heck, I'd say let them carry fully automatic machine pistols. And drive Dodge Hellcats.

With the way the nuts and freaks are rampaging and killing innocent people in mass shootings over their mental dementia, it's time for the police to up-gun.

And nearly all law enforcement types I've worked with will tell you the Gov needs to be carefully regulated. Look at Gov over-control places like China. Cameras on the street corners with the traffic signals. If there's no traffic at 3AM and you cross the street, you can expect a ticket in the mail or in your email for jaywalking.

The trucker cell phone problem is usually related to the open border program the current White House endorses. Third world truck drivers don't give a hoot about laws and common sense in a foreign country. If they crash, and survive, they get out and run away. Don't ask me how I know.

Not in my experience.
Before cell phones, I could count the number of times someone drifted into my lane in a year on one hand.
Now if I drive for an hour, it is unusual if it doesn't happen 10+ times.
I have seen cell phone users side swipe someone, run a red light, rear end someone, sit thru an entire green light at an intersection, & nearly run down a pedestrian.
People are too stupid and self absorbed to police themselves with cell phone use. (it is illegal to use them while driving here)
But, like virtually every other law, there is little to no enforcement.
In Bill's world, it would be different.

I won't disagree, the more crap we put in cars the more things there are to distract us.

However, a good conversation while holding the phone up to yer ear, your reaction time is about the same as a drunk. Proven fact. For that reason I stand behind my statement that distracted driving via cellphone should carry the same penalty as DWI.
