Finally posting some pics. Sold the old single lid root grapple and fabbed up this twin lid lightweight one more suited to handling logs, firewood, roots, rocks, brush etc.
Specs:
* AR400 laser cut profiles
* 66.5" width, 31" deep bottom, 40" grapple max opening, can hold 20" log when grapple fully closed
* 3" utility cylinders connected in parallel for grabbing odd shaped items
* grapple lids 18" wide, base grapple tines 8" apart
* est. 750 lbs weight? 10,000+ lbs capacity suitable for skidsteer or CTL with SSQA

If anyone is interested in fabbing one of these up as a flat pack kit that fits one one 36" pallet send me a PM. I can get better pricing if I cut profiles for ten grapples vs one at a time.

For reference, the log in the last 3 photos is hard maple approx 36" diameter x 6' long

My old single lid grapple struggled to grip these kinds of logs. The old grapple could not lift a 2,000lbs armourstone.

It will pick up a 2,000lbs armourstone but I need to put the BH on. I Didn't want to take pics when the tractor went up on the front two wheels...

I’m curious what thickness plate is used for the bottom and top tines?

As you mentioned, weighing in at nearly 800 lbs takes it out of the range of many CUT, but the larger TLB like yours will do fine with it.

Why? 8-12 month wait list for the new commercial one I wanted. Weight on the purchased one was 950lbs and mine was 40% cheaper.

Base middle tines are 1/4. Sides and grapple lid tines are 5/16

Provision for cylinder covers and shields is there. It's a matter of how frustrated I get after breaking off a hydraulic fitting before I fab the shields ;-)
