WASHINGTON (AP) — The Air Force has detected unsafe levels of a likely carcinogen at underground launch control centers at a Montana nuclear missile base where a striking number of men and women have reported cancer diagnoses.

The rest of the world knew about PCB decades ago. It took this long for the Air Force to admit it was slowly killing it's airmen.
Sympathy to those that served and mistakenly thought that the old guys in charge were looking out for them.
Decades later and several wars later the boots on the ground are still exposed to shi* that the industrial world knew where bad and tried to control.
I still believe that every new recruit should read the pentagon papers and ask themselves if anything has changed.

IMHO: We need to treat our armed forces much better and offer far more support for the VETS !

The VA does admit though.
Service anywhere in Vietnam, or the waters of Vietnam, is considered as an agent orange exposure area.

WHen did this come about ?
If you are asking about the PCBs. FOX, CBS, NY Daily news all published it 2 days ago.
I was doing field testing for PCB 40 years ago and we knew the danger. It is safe to assume the Air Force also knew it back then.
The health danger from the nasty stuff in agent orange (dioxins) were know in the late 50's. It is a matter of opinion as to what and when the army knew and still decided to spray.

For sure. It's no wonder why our bases happen to be some of the largest superfund sites. Neither PCB's or Dioxins degrade quickly as you well know...yet, they try to keep a lid on it for as long as they can.

I've been in the same field for over 30 years as well. There's some really sh_tty stuff out there that people are unaware of.

A very good friend of mine just buried his 23 year old son. He was stationed at Minot and died of brain cancer. There may be something to this!
