Hi all, I bought a 2021 B2601 with a BX2822a snowblower, I far from new to tractors and snowblower but this is my first Kubota (and I like it) I've been reading the manuals learning about the tractor and the blower and I have a question about the shear bolt for the blower fan PN 77700-04339 its a 1/4" X 1.25" bolt can I use a grade 2 bolt from my bolt bin

I’d think so. Most of the time shear bolts are Grade 2. Some folks like to try to find the next weak link and use Grade 5. I wouldn’t do that myself.

Thanks for the reply GrizBota, I'm with you I never go over grade 2 for shear bolts parts and the down time is to expensive, for the minor inconvenience of having to replace a shear bolt

Get shear bolts, or make your own.
A standard bolt can wear the hole, from threads wearing on it, or they will not shear cleanly making them very hard to get them out.

Get the right bolts or make your own. I plan on buying about a dozen every winter(hard on them, gravel)and will never not use a shear bolt, it's like the ten cent fuse thats protecting $30,000.

Yup, presumably folks know to use bolts with no threads in the area that the shearing occurs. I suppose if one wanted to pay $5 or more for a bolt, they might find one that’s actually called a shear bolt. Or they could use a Grade 2 bolt they have on hand. Its worked for me for quite a number of decades. I actually buy the 3.5” x1/2” Grade 2 bolts out of a bin at the farm supply store. If they knew they were shear bolts, I’ll bet they wouldn’t be $3 a pound. So far the brush hog hasn’t protested. Other than I bust a shear bolt or two most seasons.

Thanks guys for the replies I use shear bolts with groove cut in them all the time but couldn't see a groove in the 1/4 fran bolt so I asked and got my answer, some years I don't go thru any bolts and others its like every couple of weeks, I've been a mechanic for 55+ years and know about threads in the bore, what I do is get a long enough bolt run some threads down to where its right and cut off the excess

Thanks again guys, I appreciate the good answers, I asked about the 1/2 bolt on another site and got a couple of smart replies saying to use grade 8's and wouldn't need to worry about changing them, so I joined here and glad of it

I use the shear bolts for it also found out don't torque them more than 8 lbs. I went thru a lot of them before I found that out.
